Trump accepts Republican nomination for US president

Appearing before delegates, the most unorthodox and controversial presidential contender in modern times will accept the nomination of a party that has guided more candidates to the Oval Office than any other.

There wasn’t much subtlety in Donald Trump’s acceptance speech – or much innovation, either.

“I’m with you, and I will fight for you, and I will win for you.”

After Trump criticized Clinton’s character and honesty, the crowd began chanting “Lock her up!”

“Let’s defeat her in November”, he says. It’s nice to think so, but it would be even nicer to see a few details.

Trump also launched a series of attacks on his Democratic Party rival Hillary Clinton, accusing her of keeping “our rigged system in place” and leaving “death, destruction and weakness” as her legacy.

He characterized Hillary Clinton as a “puppet” of the elites, a candidate who would not bring about change. “Beginning on January 20, 2017, safety will be restored”, Trump will say.

He claimed to be the “voice” of the people who had been “ignored, neglected and abandoned” and renewed his promise to “build a great border wall” along the U.S. border with Mexico to stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Marco Rubio, also addressed the convention’s third night, delivering lukewarm endorsements of Trump.

“I will note, sir, you’re making crying signs in the back”, he said.

Trump walked on stage after receiving a passionate introduction from his daughter Ivanka.

Though he beat 16 primary rivals, he is viewed with unprecedented negativity by the broader electorate, and is struggling in particular with younger voters and minorities, groups Republican leaders know they need for the party to grow.

CLEVELAND-Congressman Daniel Donovan, New York City’s only Republican on the Hill, slammed Texas Sen. Refusing to endorse Trump doesn’t make Cruz a “coward” or, in the words of alleged human Ann Coulter, “a little bitch”; it makes Cruz the last man in the state of OH who has any idea what the hell is going on.

Donald Trump “humbly and gratefully” accepted the Republican nomination for president on Thursday night.

The remarks deviate from decades of American policy and seem to reject the 67-year-old alliance’s bedrock principle of collective defence.

Trump reinforced his position from the convention stage, saying the United States has been “picking up the cost” of NATO’s defences for too long. Americanism, not globalism, will be his credo.

“As long as we are led by politicians who will not put ‘America First, ‘ then we can be assured that other nations will not treat America with respect.”

But his economic proposals Thursday night were vague, centring on unspecified plans to create millions of jobs.
