It was an honor to speak to the delegates at the Republican National Convention. I was confused for all the normal reasons a liberal would be confused by such proceedings: the night included call outs to the LGBTQ community and addressed issues such as women’s equality, the gender pay gap and childcare policies-traditionally Democratic issues-all to applause.

It was the most important speech of his political career and he delivered it nearly exactly as it played across a teleprompter, rarely ad libbing.
In an interview with the New York Times, Trump was quoted as saying that he would decide to come to the aid of states under threat by Russian Federation, only after reviewing whether they had “fulfilled their obligations to us”.
The prevailing narrative at the Cleveland convention has not been about Trump’s positions, but dominated instead by the failure of he party’s various factions to unite behind Trump.
“And I have to say, as a Republican, it is so nice to hear you cheering for what I just said”.
From Libya to Syria, Trump said Clinton’s foreign policy record had made the USA less secure, alleging that during her time as secretary of state she allowed the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS). To me, it seems like he’s lurching towards the moral argument now because he senses that the ideological one wasn’t well received, even with his own delegation from Texas.
Reasserting a statement she’s made numerous times throughout her father’s campaign, Ivanka cited his hiring of women into management roles in his construction empire as proof of his progressive mindset towards gender roles. She emphatically pointed out that it was not just womanhood but also motherhood that hurt women in the workplace. She did this all to applause. On Thursday, when I asked him how he felt about the Convention, he beamed.
“America was shocked to its core when our police officers in Dallas were so brutally executed”, Mr Trump said.
It was necessarily more non-partisan than traditional Republican speeches.
Trump painted her as corrupt, incompetent and hopelessly out of touch.
And I liked it. I like her. She’s fast and competent and shrewd. “And he’s sitting there taking questions…a lot of questions”.
Yup. When you’re getting kudos from a former Klansman, you know you’re yelling up the right, far-right, alt-right tree.

He said Mrs Clinton was doing nothing to help the families he had met whose loved ones had been killed by illegal immigrants. I mean, the man starred in a show where he routinely shouted “you’re fired” at people. “Believe me, believe me”. The candidate I saw Ivanka promoting still wasn’t someone I’d vote for, but he wasn’t a scary clown bent on world domination. U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions, a Dallas lawmaker, says Republicans should be looking to November, not future elections. Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli told ABC News that he escorted Heidi Cruz out of the convention hall because “it was volatile and the Trump folks were physically approaching and confrontationally yelling”, he said via text. I’ve met dozens of other people in the alt-right here. It’s not necessarily that we’re looking for someone of the Bernie Sanders wing of the party – indeed, we are more in agreement with Mr. Kaine (and, for that matter, Mr. Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence) on trade issues than we are with either of the candidates at the top of the parties’ tickets.
