Trump agrees to debate Sanders; Fox News is ‘interested’

Both Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump have said they would like to debate one another, an exchange that started during a late night comedy show interview Wednesday and continued back and forth between the two camps Thursday. His condition: The hosting TV network would have to put up millions of dollars for charity.

Trump said a debate with Sanders could raise up to $15 million for charity.

“We are very pleased that we split the delegates in a state with a closed primary in which independents can not vote and where Secretary Clinton defeated Barack Obama by 35 points in 2008”, Sanders said in a news release.

Veteran boxing promoter Bob Arum has offered to promote a possible debate between Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders.

Hillary Clinton dismissed Donald Trump Thursday as an “unqualified loose cannon” who is “within reach of the most important job of the world” after he secured the delegates necessary to win the Republican presidential nomination.

But it’s far from clear any such showdown will happen. Actually, I mean the problem with debating Bernie is that he’s gonna’ lose. CNN never responded to the request, and the idea was dropped.

So it may come as no surprise the Trump campaign reportedly told CBS News Thursday morning that Trump was only joking around and wouldn’t be debating Sanders. “I understand the television business very well”, Mr. Trump said.

“The comments at the town hall echo a tweet that Sanders sent on Wednesday after Trump said on Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that he would be open to a debate. The debate will clearly undermine her position as Democratic front runner.

Clinton leads Sanders by 272 pledged delegates and enjoys a near 500 delegate advantage among superdelegates.

It seemed like a joke from a host who’s now waging (and merchandising) a satirical bid for vice president.

Trump was then asked about Weaver’s response during a press conference Thursday afternoon and confirmed members of the two camps have had initial discussions about a potential debate. Usually, I know vice presidents do it the other way around, but I’m not “usually” and this is how I do it.

Sanders, in contrast, trails behind Clinton, who is 75 delegates short of the 2,383 needed to win the Democratic nomination.
