Trump aide blasts Cruz’s running mate choice as act of desperation

Carly Fiorina is explaining the rules of the Republican Party to rival Donald Trump as she looks to assert why the race for the Republican nomination could go to a contested convention.

Original story: Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz announced Wednesday afternoon that former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina will be his running mate.

Wednesday, with Trump barreling toward the GOP nomination, Cornyn was singing a different tune.

“Our goal is peace and prosperity, not war and destruction”, he declared in a 38-minute address that was heavy on broad statements and light on specific policy details.

Mark Meckler, president of the tea party organization Citizens for Self-Governance of Chicago Park, Calif., saw the advantages of Fiorina. Cruz and ex-Ohio Gov. Kasich seemed keener than ever to stop Trump, with Kasich planning to skip the IN primary IN order to help out Cruz and Cruz pledging to return the favor IN Oregon.

Trump trounced his competitors in Tuesday’s elections, putting him in a stronger position to win the nomination outright in the next six weeks of voting.

Trump’s “new direction” in American foreign policy was vague even by the standards of presidential campaigns.

Trump’s big sweep in NY on April 19 and in the five states that voted this week have put the reality TV star ahead of the pace he needs to reach 1,237 bound and committed delegates by the end of the primaries and caucuses on June 7. Trump’s speech offered an early glimpse of how he would seek to undermine Clinton’s experience in foreign policy and assure Republicans who are wary of his ability to provide a steady hand in leading the nation’s interests around the globe and overseeing the USA nuclear capability and military. She lost her bid for the U.S. Senate in 2010 with 42 percent of the vote, a campaign the California-based Meckler noted was “terrible”.

“He has the news conference all the time when he’s eating”. “Well, I think all would acknowledge this race – if anything, it is unusual”. She has been a sharp critic on the campaign trail of likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Manafort praised the foreign policy speech that Trump delivered on Wednesday.

Speculation that Cruz would announce a running mate started swirling earlier in the day after the Texas senator teased that he had a “major announcement” to make later in the day.

“As I have said from the beginning, the most important attribute for any running mate is that he or she should be able to step in and fulfill the role as president, be the commander in chief, keep this country safe, and champion jobs, freedom and security”, Cruz said. Similarly, Clinton won convincingly in four of the five contests, scoring 56 percent in Pennsylvania and 63 percent in Maryland – the two biggest contests of the night. Her rival, Bernie Sanders, won the Rhode Island primary with 55 percent of the vote. “This disrupts the usual Republican vs. Democrat, conservative vs. liberal paradigm, and I think we don’t know how this will all play out”. IN has 57 available delegates.

The Texas senator, who has repeatedly said “Hoosiers” – a 1980s flick about an underdog IN high school basketball team – is one of his favorite movies, was IN the the gym where the movie was filmed.

In the Republican race, Cruz and Kasich are desperately trying to force a convention fight.

So the candidates are essentially competing in 53 mini contests across the state – some of them heavily Democratic districts where Republicans are few and far between, making it hard to even recruit people to be Republican delegates.

Cruz has proved more adept than Trump at wooing unpledged delegates and winning over activists at state conventions, including some Trump-pledged delegates who could break for him at a multiballot convention.
