Trump aide mocks election challenge

Initially, the Secretary of State reported Trump won by 13,107 votes in the state, making for one of the closest presidential elections in MI history.

All the while, the dismayed Hillary Clinton campaign may have been given a golden opportunity to challenge the results of the election.

The best figures I can find for the number of votes that require to be overturned so that their College votes go to Mrs Clinton, are: Wisconsin 24,000; Pennsylvania 66,000; and MI 13,000.

There is no evidence that the results were hacked or that electronic voting machines were compromised.

Donald Trump has called for unity in America as a growing campaign for a recount in three key swing states raised almost £1.8 million in a matter of hours.

And yet, with vote continuing to be counted in California, Clinton has now expanded her popular-vote lead to more than 2 million (64.4 million to 62.3 million), the widest gap in raw vote in the history of the handful of times when the popular vote went the opposite direction as the Electoral College.

Mr Trump has 290 electoral college votes, compared to Ms Clinton’s 232 votes. MI is likely to be given to the Republican side.

In the Times interview, Trump also said “it’s very important” that his presidency “bring the country together”.

There have been cases before of electors breaking from their state’s popular vote tallies before – so-called “faithless electors” – but they have been scattered and unorganized.

Unfortunately, because we do not know the candidates personally, we can only assess their perspectives based on what they tell us through reports and the media.

Cheryl Tavarozzi’s article concerning the Electoral College was well reasoned.

Speaking about the Americans’ reaction after Trump’s win, he said, “It was not the Democrats nor Hillary neither the common people, but Republicans who were surprised at Trump’s victory”.

“Three thousand votes are all that separate Clinton and Trump in New Hampshire”.

Millions of ballots come in at the last second, or, in states that allow it, several days after the election with the proper postmarks.

The President-elect said in a YouTube message that it was time to “begin to heal our divisions” after a “long and bruising” election campaign that had left emotions “raw”.

In a major volte-face this week, Mr Trump changed his position on prosecuting Mrs Clinton.

– Said he thinks there’s “some connectivity” between humans and climate change, a reversal from his campaign trail declaration that man-made climate change is a hoax.

However, while speaking about pursuing criminal charges against Mrs Clinton and her husband Bill earlier this week, the president elect said: “It’s just not something that I feel very strongly about”.

Similarly, if electors should follow “one person, one vote” at a national level, I don’t see why they should ignore that principle if they think “the people [went] insane”.
