WASHINGTON-A close ally of Donald Trump said talks about the cost of building a wall with Mexico was not supposed to be part of the discussion during Republican presidential candidate’s recent meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto. Our message to the world will be this: “You can not obtain legal status or become a citizen of the United States by illegally entering our country”, he said then.
“That’s what it sounded like because what happened is what we call a diplomatic incident, because he came out saying one thing and the Mexican president corrected him nearly immediately”, the Democratic presidential nominee told ABC News’ David Muir in an interview that aired Tuesday on “Good Morning America“.
Trump also made conflicting statements earlier on Monday during a press gaggle aboard his plane, on the issue of undocumented immigrants achieving legal status.
“We’re going to make that decision into the future”, Trump told reporters when discussing the possibility for a path to legalization for undocumented immigrants, according to the Wall Street Journal.
First-term Rep. Will Hurd is seeking re-election from a constituency that’s almost 70 percent Hispanic while representing 820 miles of the U.S. -Mexico border, more than any other congressional district. “It wasn’t right at the very beginning, it was sort of in the middle and I just briefly said ‘that’s not on the table'”.
She told ABC, ‘He didn’t raise it, so he did choke. He didn’t know how to even communicate effectively with a head of state.
Hurd responded: “The second name down on the ballot is going to be mine, so you have a chance to feel good about pulling that lever”. When asked if she would accept Peña Nieto’s invitation, Clinton said “no”. “Whether it’s me or somebody else because by that time we’ll have a secure border, we’ll have a wall”, Trump said. More telling, she said, “we’ve never had the nominee of one of our major parties urging the Russians to hack”.
Kaine said it is “impossible to believe” that funding for the wall was not discussed.
Trump running mate Mike Pence declined to get specific about what Trump would do with undocumented immigrants who aren’t “criminal aliens” or national security threats.
‘See who wins in the end.
But for those who stay behind, Trump said their cases would be considered at some undefined point.
“The reality is, when people are going in to make a decision about this race, they’re making a decision about THIS race”, said Hurd, Texas’ first black Republican in Congress since Reconstruction.

Trump made a whirlwind trip Wednesday to Mexico, heightening speculation that he might back off promises to build a wall along the 1,989-mile southern border and force Mexico to pay for it.
