Trump ally Christie calls criticisms of slain soldier’s family ‘inappropriate’
The woman who helped shape New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s national image ahead of his presidential run says she is voting for Hillary Clinton in November.

Former Republican Gov. Christine Todd Whitman in June said Christie was posturing for a position in a potential Trump presidential cabinet. Whitman said Christie “knows better” after he defended Trump’s comments questioning a federal judge’s integrity because of his Mexican descent.
Comella, who also worked on Christie’s political action committee in the lead-up to his bid for the White House, is widely credited for raising the governor’s national profile early in his tenure through the use of social media and YouTube, and was involved in Christie’s media response to the fallout from the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal. The governor said that it’s the president who has disqualified himself from giving comments like that because he said last week that Hillary Clinton is the most qualified person in American history to be president.
“The Khans have a right to say whatever it is they want regarding the loss of their son and for all the Gold Star families out there they have put forward a sacrifice that I can not fathom as a parent”, Christie said in response to a reporter’s question.
The admission was shocking because Christie has been Trump’s most stalwart and prominent defender, refusing to criticize the candidate over statements that have drawn rebukes from other Republican supporters.
“Donald Trump has been a demagogue this whole time, preying on people’s anxieties with loose information and salacious rhetoric, drumming up fear and hatred of the ‘other, ‘” Comella said in the interview.
“Instead of trying anything remotely like unifying the country, we have a nominee who would rather pick fights because he views it as positive news coverage”, Comella said. She is the second major Republican aide to switch to Clinton, following in the footsteps of Jeb Bush aide Sally Bradshaw. Trump mocked her boss mercilessly as “low energy” and beat him in the primaries.
“If I’m not independent in this role, I’m not helping anyone”, he said.
‘My father is a great patriot, he doesn’t want to see more Americans dead, and he sees what’s happening around the country, and quite frankly, he’s shaking his head’.

‘President Obama hailed gold star families in remarks Monday. We have to do everything we can for those families, and honor them, and be humbled by them, ‘ he said.
