Trump Backs Paul Ryan: “I Support and Endorse Our Speaker”
Donald Trump reversed course Friday (Aug 5) and endorsed House Speaker Paul Ryan for re-election, seeking to end deep divisions within the Republican Party and stem his presidential campaign’s bleeding after several self-inflicted wounds. “It’s impossible to understand what the strategy is”.

“This campaign is not about me or any one candidate”, Trump said. Nehlen this week said he was open to deporting American Muslims who follow Sharia Law from the U.S.
And he added that while they “may disagree on a couple of things” they agree on a lot as well.
Ryan is facing a primary opponent, businessman Paul Nehlen, who has praised Trump while denouncing Ryan. Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos offered a blunt message ahead of the presidential nominee’s arrival: “We are Ryan Republicans here in Wisconsin, not Trump Republicans”.
Ryan, McCain and Ayotte had all assailed Trump for his disparaging remarks. The campaign acknowledged Thursday that this was incorrect, yet Trump repeated the claim hours later at a rally. This has led to Nehlen getting far more airtime than he would normally get.
Wisconsin “has a real Republican Party”, said University of Wisconsin political scientist Byron Shafer.
Trump lost the Wisconsin primary to Texas Sen.
“Then how do you implement the test that you want to implement?”
“I have a thing”, he said.
On Tuesday’s show, Paul Nehlen, who is running against Speaker of the House Paul Ryan in Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, joined Tom to discuss why he is challenging Ryan and getting in the way of the GOP’s efforts to unify. He told the crowd, “if Hillary Clinton becomes president, you will have terrorism”. “I don’t know what that line is”, he said.
The refusal to back Ryan had been seen by many as a final straw. But Trump has maintained that he, “wasn’t there yet”, in endorsing Ryan.
Trump has praised Putin as a great leader, and taken policy positions “consistent with Russian, not American, interests”, including endorsing Russian espionage against United States figures like Clinton, Morell said.
Trump, whose candidacy has been marked by frequent attacks on Republican leadership, changed his tune from just days earlier.
“While Donald Trump continues his hateful and offensive rhetoric, Wisconsin’s Republican leaders continue to stand behind him”.
“We have to unite, remember that”, he said. I think he’s run a great race. Trump probably started the pivot yesterday by calling Ryan “a good guy”, to a hail of boos by Trump supporters. “If I have the opportunity to meet Mr. Trump, I’ll be happy to do that”.
Asked if he still intends to vote for Trump, Grothman said: “I think so”.
Trump’s relationship with the three lawmakers has been rocky over the a year ago.

Gov. Walker, a onetime Trump rival who gave Trump his full backing at the convention, made it clear this week he was taking Ryan’s side in the latest flap. And like many others, he criticized Trump for his feud with the parents of slain US Army Capt. Humayun Kahn, saying Trump should apologize. At the time of the Trump event in Green Bay, Walker will be at a spaghetti dinner in the small northern Wisconsin town of Grand View. “She’s the devil”, the Republican presidential nominee said.
