Trump ‘blood’ remark on Megyn Kelly backfires

Referring to Kelly’s questions, Trump told CNN in an interview late Friday, “There was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever”.

The influential conservative website RedState disinvited him from their weekend gathering and a number of GOP rivals weighed in critically. “Only a deviant would think anything else”, said the message, which also gloated about how Trump “made Megyn Kelly look really bad – she was a mess with her anger”.

Trump’s comments didn’t sit well with RedState.com editor-in-chief Erick Erickson.

“You know, some of the statements she made about the women, I don’t recognise those words whatsoever”, Trump said on ABC’s Good Morning America. Erickson concluded by saying he invited Kelly to take his place, but said on Twitter that it’s quite unlikely she can make it to the event.

Ahead of Thursday’s first Republican presidential primary debate, the Alliance for American Manufacturing is criticizing surprise frontrunner Donald Trump over the overseas production of his merchandise. Trump drew cheers from the audience when he said, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.” Later in the night he reposted a tweet calling Kelly a “bimbo”.

Trump’s Kelly criticism infuriated a number of prominent conservatives, however, during a Friday night CNN interview.

“I don’t have time for total political correctness”, he said.

“I’m very disappointed in Fox News”. The backlash to his exchange with Kelly has threatened to knock the wheels off the bandwagon of support that had Trump leading early polls in the race for the Republican nomination for the 2016 election.

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he can’t recall specifics of insulting women, though news reports paint a long history of him comparing women to animals.

“His comment was inappropriate”, said Erickson.

Trump interrupted her by saying, “Only Rosie O’Donnell”, which got a big applause from the crowd. “We’ll now be doing another campaign stop at another location”, the campaign reportedly said.

Kelly, for her part, has not directly addressed the comments – either on Twitter or on her show – and appears to be looking to take the higher ground in the dispute. When Wallace brought this up and asked Trump to respond to Bush’s comments, Trump said, “If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t even be talking about illegal immigration, Chris”. In an attempted clarification, Mr. Trump’s team tells me he meant “whatever”, not “wherever”. “I don’t think we’re going to solve the problems in this country by obsessing over the politics of personality. You ungrateful dog!” he tweeted in 2013 at a rapper who wrote a song titled “Donald Trump“.
