Donald Trump officially accepted his nomination as leader of the Republican party with a rousing speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
“Americans watching this address tonight have seen the recent images of violence in our streets and the chaos in our communities”, Trump will say, according to excerpts of prepared remarks released by the Trump campaign.
“As president, my father will change the labor laws that were put in place at a time when women weren’t a significant portion of the workplace, and he will focus on making quality childcare affordable and accessible for all”, Ivanka Trump said. Ted Cruz’s dramatic refusal to endorse him from the convention stage.
New York’s Republican delegation rose to its feet Thursday night as Donald Trump vowed to cut wasteful spending and appoint a conservative to the Supreme Court.
Ted Cruz was actually a sign of party unity and support for his father. “If he gives it, I will not accept it”. “And then at the last minute, once he said, ‘vote your conscience, ‘ I blew a gasket”.
“It’s bittersweet”, said Lou Nolan, a delegate from SC, as she filed out of the convention center.
Eric Trump, who spoke after Ted Cruz’s controversial speech at the RNC, says the Texas senator has “committed political suicide”.
Cruz acknowledged that his decision was at least partly personal, saying, “I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father”.
Trump’s communications adviser Jason Miller also insisted yesterday that, while a call occurred between Donald Trump Jr and top Kasich adviser John Weaver, a vice presidential offer was never on the table.
Earlier in the week, the convention was marred by allegations that Mr Trump’s wife, Melania, lifted sections of her speech from a similar one delivered by first lady Michelle Obama in 2008.
In typical Trump fashion, he cast himself as the only one who could solve America’s problems. “Things were going to be done soon, fast, immediately, and there wasn’t much detail how that was going to happen”.
‘I have joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people that cannot defend themselves, ‘ he told delegates in Cleveland, Ohio.
Burlison said he had talked with many Trump supporters whose second choice would have been Cruz.

“It ended on a positive note for everyone who was here”, said Erich Wolz, an alternate delegate from Houston. “I think it will help some of the healing”.
