Trump calls for criminal charges against Hillary Clinton

Clinton said she had no knowledge of any timeline for the review and would not comment on whether she was given an indication that charges would not be filed.

The staffer who set up the server, Bryan Pagliano, was granted limited immunity from prosecution by the Justice Department last fall in exchange for his cooperation. A Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday found that voters deemed Trump more honest and trustworthy than Clinton, 45 per cent to 37 per cent.

Meanwhile former president Bill Clinton has reflected on his controversial meeting with United States attorney general Loretta Lynch, concluding that, like her, he would not do it again.

“I fully expect to accept their recommendations”, said Lynch, who has the option of modifying any possible charges against Clinton. “What she did was wrong!”

She has apologised for exclusively using a private e-mail account and her own server during her time as secretary of state in 2009 to 2013. The Associated Press revealed the existence of the server in March 2015.

“Not now”, said moderator Chuck Todd dashing her dreams. Clinton and Obama appeared together in Unity, New Hampshire, following their divisive primary fight in 2008, and Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, gave a well-received speech at the 2012 Democratic convention. He had nominated Lynch as USA attorney for the Eastern District of NY in 1999.

Tame said although the Attorney General said otherwise, she does have the power to overrule the recommendations of the investigation. Cotton also took a jab at Bill Clinton’s meeting with Loretta Lynch, saying that his plane was also on the tarmac, and he thought Bill Clinton may be waiting to climb on board to talk with him as well.

Despite this eagerness though, Clinton made it clear she wouldn’t expand on her previous comments on the case, repeatedly refusing the opportunity to defend herself against any claims of wrongdoing.

Clinton has said relying on a private server was a mistake but that other secretaries of state had also used a personal email address. Federal Bureau of Investigation agents will consider the classified material involved and determine if it was a crime to handle the documents in that manner.

“Well, I think, you know, hindsight is 20/20”. “I know that’s something that I’m going to keep working on, and I think that’s, you know, a clear priority for me”.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) called the step “unprecedented”, while Mrs Clinton’s expected opponent in the race for the White House, Mr Donald Trump, wasted little time before weighing in.

Clinton, who declined comment further on the probe, promised that “I will continue to be as forthcoming as I can”.

Clinton’s campaign welcomed the end of a probe that had cast a cloud over her campaign, but Republicans seized on Comey’s criticism of what he termed Clinton’s “extremely careless” handling of emails. But an independent State Department inspector general report in May said the use was not appropriate largely because it didn’t comply the Federal Records Act and was vulnerable to hackers.

The former top US diplomat said she learned of the meeting “in the news”.

“It was a short, chance meeting that occurred. I know that some have nonetheless viewed the meeting in a different light”, Clinton said.
