Trump calls for immediate closure of ‘corrupt’ Clinton Foundation

“It is now clear that the Clinton Foundation is the most corrupt enterprise in political history”, Trump said, blasting the charity, which has raised some two billion dollars over the years. Look, what we’re focused on right now is making sure Hillary Clinton is elected president, so nobody wants to get ahead of themselves.

John Podesta, the chairman of the Clinton campaign, said in a statement on Monday that the foundation had laid out “unprecedented steps” that it would take if Hillary Clinton is elected. In an attempt to turn the conversation Mook contrasted that to Republican nominee Donald Trump, who has refused to release his tax returns.

The Clinton Foundation is a charity that helps people around the world. “If Hillary is elected, we will transition those programs out of the foundation to other organizations committed to continuing their work”, the former president said in a statement on Monday.

Critics of the foundation have charged that donations to the foundation may have swayed decisions made at the State Department while Hillary Clinton was at the helm.

“There’s all this scrutiny because Hillary Clinton has been transparent”, Mook said. The foundation’s work on health problems overseas and support from foreign entities has always been criticized by Republicans and Democrats alike, who felt there was at least an appearance of impropriety for an official who served as the nation’s chief diplomat.

The Clinton Foundation also announced last week that it would no longer accept foreign or corporate donations if Hillary Clinton wins the White House and that it would no longer convene its annual meeting.

Trump previously had donated $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation.

But questions have been raised about possible conflicts of interest while Clinton, now the Democratic presidential nominee, worked as secretary of state in the Obama administration.

The emails were released by a judge after the group made the request that they be made public under U.S. freedom of information laws.

Recently released emails from Clinton’s top aides at the State Department have fueled the criticism, including one from Clinton aide Doug Band to her top aides at the State Department, Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills, asking for a “favor” to “take care” of someone at State.

“The email in question from Doug Band was coming from his private email account, or his Clinton.com email account, it was not related to the foundation, and the State Department at every step was following every appropriate protocol”, Mook said. This is someone who had a relationship with the Clintons long before Hillary became secretary of state.who had wanted to provide some insight into a matter. But none of the exchanges appeared to show a direct quid-pro-quo.
