Trump calls on NZ-loving justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to resign

Perhaps trying to cement her reputation as the “Notorious RBG”, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has kicked over a hornets’ nest with her comments about Republican presidential contender Donald Trump.

“I think it’s highly inappropriate that a United States Supreme Court judge gets involved in a political campaign, frankly”, he told The New York Times.

In a series of interviews with The Associated Press, the New York Times and CNN, Ginsburg reiterated her criticisms of Trump, calling him “a faker” on CNN.

Possibly. While Ginsburg’s comments would not affect her ability to decide a case involving a policy concerning a President Trump, her remarks could be grounds for recusal if his electoral fate came before the Supreme Court in a case resembling Bush v. Gore, Lubet said.

Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg said Ginsburg had no comment on Trump’s reaction to her comments. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment.

“He really has an ego”, she said. “How has he gotten away”, she asked, “with not turning over his tax returns?”. With the Republican National Convention taking place next week, it will very likely rally a lot of Republicans who have reservations about him to his corner. She added, “For the country, it could be four years”. A Supreme Court spokeswoman did not immediately respond Wednesday to a reporter’s request for comment on Trump’s criticism. Leave us a comment and let us know.

Earlier, Ginsburg joked about moving to New Zealand if Trump won the White House. She should step down voluntarily and resign from the Supreme Court to preserve what remains of her tainted judicial legacy. “I think that’s something that she should not have done because I don’t think that that shows that she intends on being impartial in the future”. “He is a faker”, Ginsburg said of Trump. I hate to admit that Trump might be right, but the justice should have kept her opinions to herself on this one, given her position. The Times said that while there is no legal requirement that members of the high court keep their political views to themselves, it is “vital” that they remain above the fray of presidential politics. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan told CNN on Tuesday it’s “very peculiar” and “out of place”.

The New York Times also chimed in: “Washington is more than partisan enough without the spectacle of a Supreme Court justice flinging herself into the mosh pit”.
