Trump campaign manager: A deportation force ‘TBD’

On Saturday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump held a meeting with his new Hispanic advisory council, BuzzFeed reported, in which the candidate indicated he was open to a “humane and efficient” answer to undocumented immigration into the USA – and possibly to a pathway to legal status for people already living here.

But Conway said Sunday she wasn’t making a statement about Clinton’s marriage.

And she ended up making some news in both.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump speaks on stage during a campaign rally in Fredericksburg, Virginia, U.S., August 20, 2016.

“I really liked that Trump acknowledged that there is a big problem with the 11 million [undocumented] people who are here, and that deporting them is neither possible nor humane”, said Jacob Monty, a Texas immigration lawyer who attended the meeting.

“It’s a sign of desperation”, immigration reform advocate Frank Sharry told BuzzFeed.

The Clinton campaign immediately pounced on the issue.

Still any easing of Trump’s hard-line stance on immigration – which also includes building a wall along the border with Mexico and temporarily banning Muslim immigrants – could alienate some of his most ardent supporters.

Conway was responding to reports about what was said in a meeting Trump held on Saturday with a Hispanic advisory council.

Last November, he called for a deportation force to do the job.

“So what Donald Trump said yesterday in that meeting. varied little from what he has said publicly”, Conway insisted, referring to the meeting with Hispanic leaders. That was part of the discussion, it was a very robust discussion. Bash didn’t let her off without a follow-up, however.

Conway, on “This Week”, also answered questions about the campaign’s organization.

But the third time was the charm.

Pressed on whether Mr Trump’s plans would include a “deportation force” the candidate previously pledged to set up, she replied: “To be determined”.

That wasn’t the only issue Conway discussed with Bash. “He didn’t have to say anything – we’re there”, said Monty, a former “bundler” for the presidential campaign of former Florida governor Jeb Bush. She said the campaign would not release his 2008 returns that have already exited an audit, either, repeating the message of Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort.

When she didn’t work for the campaign five months ago, Conway urged Trump to “be transparent” and release his returns.

Conway did not say Spicer was formally joining the campaign. “All this poll will do is generate new talking points for themselves”.
