Trump campaigns for African-American votes before an nearly white audience
It’s no secret that GOP presidential contender Donald Trump has had a big problem attracting black voters, and here in MI he’s done little to fix that.

The stats say that under a progressive Democratic president, black Americans are less well-off than they were under President Bush the younger.
Trump traveled 45 minutes outside of Milwaukee, which is 40 percent black, to deliver his appeal to African-American voters in the suburb of West Bend, Wisconsin, a community that is 95 percent white. His preferred style of politicking consists nearly entirely of addressing arena-size rallies, conducting media interviews and receiving visitors in private at events or at his Manhattan skyscraper. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, that Trump has made no real effort to win over black voters.
Trump accused Hillary Clinton and the Obama administration of fostering an anti-police environment, one that is directly hurting the black community. “Just like Hillary Clinton is against the miners, she is against the police”.
“I don’t know what’s in his head, but I know where his body has been”. In attempting to fashion a populist message, Mr. Trump has criticized Democrats for doing little to address urban joblessness and despair.
“I’m asking for the vote for every African-American citizen struggling in our society today who wants a different and much better future”, Trump said.
DeRay McKesson, a leader of the Black Lives Matter movement who had expressed skepticism of Clinton’s candidacy in the past, tweeted that Trump’s statement that immigrants take away jobs from the black community was “racist”.
But Mr. Trump had no firsthand encounter with the very difficulties he described: He flew into the city on his private plane, got into his sport utility vehicle and motorcaded on highways past several black neighborhoods before reaching the downtown convention center where he addressed the heavily white Detroit Economic Club.
Sanders added that Trump’s remarks on policing – in which he called for more police to patrol inner cities – runs counter to what black voters are actually feeling.

“The problem in our poorest communities is not that there are too many police, the problem is that there are not enough police”, Trump said.
