Trump Changes Tune on Tax Plan, Now Open to Raising Some Rates

“If I increase it on the wealthy, they’re still going to pay less than they pay now”, Trump told Cuomo.

Asked why he was shifting his position from that during the primary, Mr. Trump told ABC, “Sure it’s a change”.

Middle-income Americans would see a federal tax cut of $2,700, or 4.9 percent of their after-tax income, on average, according to a Tax Policy Center analysis.

Under the plan, some 50 per cent of USA households would pay no federal income tax because they earned less than US$50,000 – up from 43 per cent who paid no tax in 2013 according to the Tax Policy Center. We’ve got to do something …

But under my plan, it’s going to be negotiated. “And in my opinion, the taxes for the rich will go up somewhat”.

Trump also said Sunday he would remain firm in advocating his proposed cut in the corporate tax rate from 35% to 15% and would “fight like hell” to preserve tax cuts for the middle class. He’d like his plan to incentivize them to return the profit to the U.S. And maybe I’ll raise taxes.

He denied it was any change from his plan, again insisting it was a negotiation.

“And then we’re going start negotiating”.

But bottom line, do you want taxes on the wealthy to go up or down?

“I may have to raise it a little bit because this is a negotiation. I’ll do it as fast as the auditors finish”, he said. You know, with what’s happened to the economy, with what’s happened to the cost.

Presumptive Republican Nominee Donald Trump, speaking in Eugene, Ore. on Friday, attacked Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, calling her a crook.

“Paul Ryan and his ilk, their problem is that they become so disconnected from the people they are elected to represent as evidenced by Paul Ryan’s refusal to support the GOP front runner that we just said, ‘He’s our man'”.

Asked to explain the discrepancy between his normative judgment – taxes on the wealthy should go up – and his tax-shredding plan, Trump replied, “by the time it gets negotiated, it’s going to be a different plan”.

“Our businesses pay more taxes than any businesses in the world”. That’s why companies are leaving.

He said: “Under my proposal, it’s the biggest tax cut by far, of any candidate by far”. “I have no illusions”.

Trump, who once said wages were too high but has made specific appeals to voters hit by economic stagnation, said he would like to see a minimum-wage increase but only at the state level.

On Sunday, Trump was pressed by ABC’s George Stephanopoulous over his change in position. I don’t mind paying more tax.

“I’m allowed to change”, Trump told ABC, before returning to his long-standing campaign promise to bring USA companies back to the country, which he says will result in American workers making “a lot more than the $15” hourly. “But by the time it’s negotiated, they’ll go up”. We’re going to bring in our money. The rich is probably going to end up paying more. “And I don’t know how people make it on $7.25 an hour …” So I won’t endorse anybody because I don’t know if they’d like it or not, but I do have great feelings for a number of people.
