Trump claims unity in his campaign
Donald Trump may be withholding his endorsement from House Speaker Paul Ryan, but Ryan says he never sought it in the first place.

Roday added that the Ryan team was “confident in a victory next week regardless”. I’m sure Ryan would rather that Trump endorse his Nehlen because it would free him from his obligation to support Trump.
The Republican nominee also refused to back Senator John McCain, the party’s 2008 nominee, in his bid for re-election in addition to Ryan, the most powerful elected Republican in the country.
Both Ryan and McCain are longtime critics of many of Trump’s remarks, but both have said they would support the Republican nominee in the general election.
“His excesses make you want to retch, even in the United States, especially when – as was Donald Trump’s case – he speaks ill of a soldier, of the memory of a soldier”, Mr Hollande said.
Trump yesterday refused to endorse Ryan, who faces a primary challenge from Paul Nehlen, repeating nearly word for word the language the speaker used this spring when he was reluctant to back the NY billionaire.
Ryan’s primary election in Wisconsin is scheduled for August 9, while McCain’s Senate primary in Arizona is scheduled for August 30. All three have primary challengers, and all three disapproved of Trump’s criticism of the Muslim American parents of an Army captain killed in Iraq.
Ryan condemned any criticism of Muslim Americans who serve their country, while Ayotte declared she was “appalled” by Trump’s spat with the Khans.
Trump’s comments underscore the continuing divisions in the GOP two weeks after the party’s national convention in Cleveland, which was carefully choreographed to showcase unity.
Apparently, Trump is still considering whether or not to support Ryan, having second thoughts on whether he represents the “strong leadership” required.
Trump also tweeted thanks at Nehlen “for your kind words” on Monday.
Trump said, “I like Paul, but these are awful times for our country”.
With wife, Ghazala, at his side, Khizr Khan spoke at last week’s Democratic National Convention.
There’s Florida’s junior senator, Marco Rubio, who issued a tepid rebuke, days into Trump’s attacks on the Khans, calling it an “unfortunate feud” on the same day he told his supporters, “We have to make sure that Donald wins this election”.
Ryan eventually endorsed Trump despite his misgivings. I’m doing very well in New Hampshire.
And bringing up Ayotte: “I don’t know Kelly Ayotte. I trust she can lead”, Hanna wrote. Trump then publicly complimented Nehlen’s “very good campaign”. We need loyal people in this country.

“I call it like I see it, and I’m always going to stand up for our military families and what’s best for the people of New Hampshire”, was all Ayotte would say. “It’s the principles”, Bevin told The Associated Press.
