Rubio enjoyed one of his best performances of the campaign in Thursday’s debate, joining with Cruz to raise questions about lawsuits past and present against Trump and charges that he covers up a thin policy platform with the same repeated statements.
“He just explained why he chose to back Donald Trump over the other people and why he did it now”, said Washburne, who described it as a brief call. He left the governor a voice mail message, seeking Mr. Christie’s support and assuring him that he had a bright future in public service, according to people who have heard Mr. Christie’s characterization of the message.
“It is my great honour to receive the endorsement of the Governor (Christie)”.
Christie said he plans to help Trump with “whatever he needs” throughout the rest of the campaign. “He’s trying to move up in life I guess” another NJ resident said.
As allegations of Trump’s ties to the convicted mafia affiliate surfaced in late 2015, the GOP frontrunner told the AP that he didn’t remember Sater and that he never knew of his alleged ties to organized crime.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is hoping to hold a lead in his home state of Texas, giving him a second victory after beating Trump in Iowa.
Cruz’s comments come ahead of a critical March 1 day of Republican primaries, when 11 states will head to the polls to choose their preferred candidate for the party’s nomination.
Trump has declined demands to release his tax returns, even as his rivals Cruz and Fla. Sen.
Cruz is loved by many anti-establishment Texan Republicans but his anti-Washington talk has alienated more mainstream members of the party.
When asked what Trump could be “hiding” in his tax returns, Cruz said, “Well, a lot of media outlets have reported that he doesn’t make almost as much money as he says he does”. If no candidate gets 50 percent of the vote then delegates in the state’s 36 congressional delegates get divided up – likely between Cruz and Trump.
Support for Trump seems to have engaged the GOP electorate, as almost 8 in 10 of his supporters say they are more enthusiastic about voting this year, compared to 39% of all Republicans.
