Trump, Clinton are unpopular; will voters stay home?

The polls came just days after a series of battleground state surveys showed Trump gaining on Clinton in states like Pennsylvania and OH, which some observers attributed to FBI Director James Comey’s critical assessment of Clinton’s handling of classified information.

In Maryland, both candidates get support just for showing up – Donald Trump on the Eastern Shore, and Hillary Clinton in Baltimore. Sixty-eight percent of blacks, 52 percent of Hispanics and 28 percent of whites have a favorable view of Clinton.

Trump had 34 percent favorable and 61 percent unfavorable, for a net negative rating of 27 points.

The telephone survey was conducted July 5-11 by the Marist College Institute of Public Opinion. According to a RealClearPolitics average of polls, he now stands only 3.1-points behind her: 44 to 40.9 percent.
