For Clinton, the best case Super Tuesday is simple: turning her decisive win in SC on Saturday into a sweep across the South and beyond that will cement the perception that she’s marching to her party’s nomination. “For all intents and purposes, unless you are a socialist you are not going to vote for Bernie Sanders”, Meyer said. Polls show that Trump is leading in most of the other states voting that day. Up to this point, contests have been taking place one at a time.

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney blasted Trump on Twitter Monday, tweeting: “A disqualifying and disgusting response by Donald Trump to the KKK”.

What do the delegates do? .

These states, in total, represent 865 delegates for Democrats and 595 for Republicans. “No one’s gonna get that on Tuesday, or the following Tuesday”, said Rubio’s campaign manager Terry Sullivan in Houston after the last GOP debate. Colorado will caucus for both parties though only the Democrats are choosing a candidate. On Sunday, he held four events alone in Virginia.

There is a grand total of 712 superdelegates voting in the Democratic primary, which makes up like 15 percent of the delegates. These delegates will be distributed proportionally, but Clinton’s leads are so large, it could still represent a very large advantage over Sanders. Generally, however, it’s expected they honour the wishes of the rank-and-file voters. If he can get 50% of the vote there he can get away with the lion’s share of the delegates but he has to do more. Ted Cruz acknowledged that winning Texas on Super Tuesday will be crucial to his campaign.

Why is it so complicated? .

Some states have already had their primary votes.

The first polls will close on the US’ East Coast at 7pm, EST.

Cruz told reporters Sunday in Oklahoma City that a white supremacist group is making pre-recorded calls supporting Trump and saying not to support Cuban-Americans like himself and Marco Rubio.

All five remaining presidential contenders have each campaigned in Tennessee this week ahead of Super Tuesday.

Despite that concern, Cruz didn’t balk when asked if he’d support Trump in a general election.

Marco Rubio has accused Trump of hypocrisy for vowing to deport illegal immigrants but hiring foreign staff to build Trump Tower
