Trump, Clinton respond to New York City explosion

More than two dozen people were hurt in an explosion in the NY neighborhood of Chelsea Saturday night.

Speaking at a press conference, Mayor Bill de Blasio described the explosion as “intentional” and said “injuries are significant but none of the injured are likely to die”.

Authorities haven’t yet revealed whether they believe that suspicious device has any connection to the blast. He did not give any further details.The second site of investigation on 27th Street also involved “a device”, the officer said, and police were also examining a third site of interest but it was not clear whether it was an explosive device.

The NYPD upped its presences throughout the entire city as a precaution, even though de Blasio stressed there wasn’t a “credible and specific threat” to New York Saturday night.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said late Saturday night that it is important to know the facts before drawing conclusions about incidents such as the explosion in New York City.

Clinton, asked about Trump’s saying that a “bomb” had gone off in NY, said it was “important to know the facts about any incident like this”, adding, “I think it’s always wiser to wait until you have information before making conclusions, because we are just in the beginning stages of trying to determine what happened”. In that instance the device was placed in a garbage can. The run was canceled, and no injuries were reported.

O’Neill said authorities had collected video of the explosion but asked the public for any footage they might have, as well as eyewitness accounts and tips.

The blast happened on 23rd Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues in Manhattan.

Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro says a total of 29 people were injured in the Chelsea blast. Authorities said the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device.

Pressed on who might be responsible for the incident, James P. O’Neill, the police commissioner, said no suspect was in custody.
