Trump, Clinton Win Big; Republican Race Down to Five

The “tough” guy Trump is referring to? Cruz’s support rests on a thin slice of the electorate.

The support for Rubio was largely driven by donations to his allied Super PAC, Conservative Solutions. “Now, don’t take anything away from Donald getting the delegates but Rubio coming back in SC, I think that was big”.

Like Ted Cruz, Bernie Sanders has beaten expectations so far, is likely to be around for a while longer, but lacks a realistic path to the nomination. Marco Rubio has 10.

Cruz dismissed the idea that he underperformed in SC, a state with a strong religious and evangelical population – both attributes that should favor him.

“Just wanted to say, an awesome place, South Carolina”, she complied.

Kasich argues that besides, he’s the only governor left in the GOP field, now that former Florida governor Jeb Bush has exited.

Rubio criticized Trump on healthcare policy and said he found his view of Russian leader Vladimir Putin troubling. “Right now, I’m fighting for my life”.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a South Carolina Republican primary night event, Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016 in Spartanburg, S.C.

Cruz countered that he’s the only Republican who’s been able to beat Trump so far, referring to his victory in leadoff Iowa.

Rubio and Cruz used the Sunday morning news shows to spin rosy-road-forward scenarios after complete but unofficial returns in SC put Trump way up top, with Rubio squeaking past Cruz for second. “The smartest people just don’t know what’s going to happen here”, Pete Ernaut, a Republican consultant, told Politico. “We’re positioned ideally to do exactly that”.

Sen Sanders remained upbeat, telling supporters after he conceded to Mrs Clinton in Nevada, “five weeks ago, we were 25 points behind in the polls”.

“If I win NY, the election’s over”, he said. Under most state party rules, delegates are only required to vote for their candidate on the first ballot at the convention.

“Who do the Democrats fear most?”

Altogether, there are 14 such contests on the GOP primary calendar, offering a total of 752 delegates.

Hillary Clinton also defeated Vermont Sen.

“I’ll bring over a lot of Democrats, bring over a lot of independents”, he said on CNN, audaciously predicting that he could even win largely Democratic New York state in the November 8 general election.

“I truly think the country is in a revolution”, Gaines said.

The FBI is investigating whether classified information passed through Clinton’s homebrew server while she was secretary of state.

The biggest question facing Republicans now is whether those seeking to spoil a Trump nomination have simply run out of time. It’s clear to me and, I think, to most observers that the wind is at our backs. Striking a familiar contrarian tone, Donald Trump has disagreed-suggesting that he could benefit as the field winnows and Republican voters are forced to choose new candidates. Ted Cruz – but also because it knocked his foil, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, out of the race.

The trio of Mr Trump, Mr Rubio and Mr Cruz present Republican voters with three distinct choices. Rubio has described him as a father figure.

A string of victories for Clinton and Trump in Super Tuesday contests would give them commanding leads in the delegate race, dampening prospects for their rivals to catch up. Palin has endorsed the billionaire businessman in the GOP race.

There’s another candidate who threatens to pick up some of Bush’s support: Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who finished in second place in New Hampshire.
