– Presidential candidate Ted Cruz is calling the story accusing him of cheating on his wife garbage, saying it’s nothing more than a tabloid smear.

Ted Cruz branded Donald Trump a “sniveling coward” Thursday as the feud between the Republican presidential contenders over their wives took a nastier turn.
On Thursday, Cruz did not start talking about Trump until reporters asked him about the Republican front-runner’s tweets that mocked the appearance of his wife, Heidi Cruz, and threatened to “spill the beans” about her.
The National Enquirer could not immediately be reached for comment.
In a phone interview with ABC News, Roger Stone confirmed the accuracy of his quote in the National Enquirer report, but says he was only responding to what he’s been told and was not the original source of the Cruz rumors.
Republican frontrunners Ted Cruz and Donald Trump have been mercilessly attacking each other this week – even taking down civilians in their wake. The Enquirer published photos of five women with their faces blurred, but did not give their names.
An enraged Cruz was forced to address the allegations on the campaign trail as the claims spread on social media. It’s not surprising that Donald’s tweet [about “spilling the beans” on Cruz’s wife] occurs the day before the attack comes out.
The real estate mogul hit back by posting a photograph of his wife next to an unflattering photograph of Cruz’s wife Heidi on Twitter. Katie Packer, a former top aide to 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney, and the founder of the anti-Trump Our Principles PAC, said all this spells trouble for the general election.
“Meet Melania Trump. Your next first lady”.
“I tell you, I think Heidi is the most attractive, brilliant, amazing, fantastic loving mom and wife, and she is my best friend in the whole world”. She volunteered on Cruz’s 2012 Senate campaign and is now a paid national spokeswoman for the Trump presidential campaign, and a frequent guest on cable news shows.
Cruz also took the leadership of the Enquirer to task, saying they were in league with the Trump campaign.
Cruz accused Trump and his associates of hawking a false story that the married Texas senator had sexual relationships with five unidentified women. “Or, you could support Ted Cruz on Tuesday”.
“Talk about things that people really care about, and knock this crap off because these are serious times, and you’re not behaving like you want to be president of the United States”, he said.
“‘Donald, you’re a sniveling coward – leave Heidi the hell alone”.
More important than the numbers of women who say they can’t support Trump are those women with a “very unfavorable” view of the candidate.

The Daily Beast is reporting that Marco Rubio has been trying to pitch the Ted Cruz Adulterer story for months, without success.
