Trump Criticizes Flint Pastor But Misstates Key Facts About Their Encounter

On Thursday morning, however, Trump appeared on Fox & Friends to call the pastor a “nervous mess”.

“She was like a nervous mess”, he added.

“When I heard from the Trump camp that they wanted to come by and see that we give out water, we give out foods that help mitigate lead and asked if he could come – all are welcome”, she said. Then she came up.

Trump’s appearance in Flint was part of the campaign’s effort to prove to voters that the celebrity businessman is sympathetic to the crisis and that he can be presidential in moments like this, said the AP. The last time Trump went after after non-politicians – Gold Star family Khizr and Ghazala Khan – he experienced a polling slump that lasted more than a month.

Trump was delivering a speech at Bethel United Methodist Church on Wednesday, speaking on the economy and Flint’s water crisis.

The crowd quieted down, but Trump wrapped up his speech less than 30 seconds later.

In a town like Flint, which faced heavy protest after learning Trump would be arriving, it takes more than baseless platitudes about corruption in America to win their support. “Now cars are made in Mexico and you can’t drink the water in Flint”.

After that, Trump shifted into a version of his now-standard stump speech, blasting free-trade deals like NAFTA and pointing out that then-President Clinton completed the worldwide trade deal.

Timmons defended her interruption of Trump, saying she believed she “represented Flint well”.

“Oh, oh, OK, OK, OK”.

“Oh, oh, OK, that’s good”, the Republican nominee responded, shuffling papers on his podium.

He then made a few remarks about fixing Flint’s drinking-water issues before departing. “The audience was saying, ‘Let him speak, let him speak'”.

That isn’t true. In fact, several audience members began to heckle Trump, asking pointed questions about whether he racially discriminated against black tenants as a landlord.

“Well, I was in Flint yesterday and it was a very interesting experience and got unbelievably good treatment from people, I must say, and even in that audience, the treatment was great”, Trump told the “Fox & Friends” hosts, dismissing reports of hecklers prodding him about his history of racial discrimination.
