Trump declares himself ‘voice’ of the people

Donald Trump will make his fourth appearance at the RNC tonight when he gives his victory lap speech after offically becoming the Republican Party’s presidential nominee.

“For those of you who were supporting another candidate and have emotional tremendous connections I think that’s great but we need you to step up”, said Mechler. He did not, however, endorse Trump. Many in attendance saw his refusal to endorse Trump as backtracking on a pledge he and the other former primary candidates took previous year to support whoever became the nominee.

“I assume there’s a reason the Trump campaign wanted me to speak”, said Cruz.

Although Trump tried to publicly brush off the struggle to win Cruz’s support, senior Trump adviser Paul Manafort went at Cruz’s pro-Constitution profile. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told CNN that he “totally” disagrees with Trump’s suggestion that US support could be conditional.

If there’s something he does or says that’s worthy of praise – a truly compelling new argument for his candidacy, a rhetorical flourish that brings a tear to the eye of every viewer, a newfound eloquence – then by all means give it the tribute it deserves. Trump offered “just more prejudice and paranoia” rather than solutions, Podesta said, adding that “America is better than this”.

Representative Blake Farenthold said he is eager for specifics from Trump.

Chris Christie, who first endorsed Trump at a rally at the Fort Worth Convention Center, spoke Tuesday night, delivering a withering indictment of Hillary Clinton and unequivocal support for Trump. “This morning and going forward I don’t intend to”, said Cruz.

Pressed by another delegate to answer the question on whether he’ll vote for Trump, Cruz said: “I answered it with as much as I’m going to say”.

The Republican Convention that has been staged with a massive security presence and little of the trouble from protesters that was expected but he noted that it occurs at a moment of crisis for the US. “We could have said, ‘Don’t speak, ‘” he said. Cruz called Trump a “pathological liar” and a “narcissist at a level I don’t think this country has ever seen”.

On Wednesday, he used the prime time speaking spot to urge Republicans to “vote your conscience”, and was soundly booed by delegates.

Republican disunity was on display the previous night when Trump’s primary rival, Ted Cruz, stopped far short of endorsing Trump and drew loud boos.

There’s only one reason Chris Christie thinks Ted Cruz’s speech is bad and selfish – because he refused to worship at the altar of Donald Trump.

As Trump prepared to close out the convention on Thursday, his remarks were vetted via software that ferrets out plagiarism, seeking to avoid the kinds of problems that followed wife Melania Trump’s speech on Monday.
