Trump denies changing his mind on immigration policy
Republican Donald Trump promised on Monday to be “fair, but firm” toward the estimated 11 million immigrants living in the United States illegally, a shift in tone that raised questions on whether he’s backtracking from previous pledges to push for mass deportations.

“What he supports is to make sure we enforce the law”, stated Conway.
After insisting for more than a year that all illegal immigrants “have to go”, Trump met a newly created panel of Hispanic advisers and asked for other ideas – making it clear that his position is not finalised, according to two attendees.

His comments drew condemnation from the Mexican government as “biased and absurd”.
That acknowledgement would stand in sharp contrast with what the real estate mogul has previously said about immigration.
“He’s saying, look, ‘How in the world can we abide a 58 percent unemployment rate among African American youth?'” she said.
“We have a lot of bad people that have to get out of this country. And, by the way, and they’re never coming back”.
Clinton’s team is also releasing a new ad that questions the judgment of GOP rival Donald Trump.
“As far as everybody else, we’re going to go through the process”, he said, citing the policies of President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush as examples. The Republican told The Wall Street Journal that U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel has “an inherent conflict of interest” because of his plan for “building a wall” along the U.S. border with Mexico. “We’ve got gang members, we have killers, we have a lot of bad people that have to get out of this country. they’re gonna be out of this country so fast your head will spin”. “We have to be very, very strong when people come in illegally”, Trump said.
‘We have to be very firm. “But we want something fair”.
Trump’s deportation plan, along with his call to build a wall along the southern US border with Mexico to halt the stream of undocumented migrants entering the country, helped fuel his run to the Republican presidential nomination.
During an interview with CNN on Sunday, Trump’s new campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, was asked if the candidate still supports the concept of a “deportation force” that will remove undocumented immigrations.
It will be hard for Mr Trump to convince Hispanic voters and moderates that his change of heart is authentic.
“My guess is it’s to try and be a little softer and gentler with the rhetoric, in the hopes of reaching suburban whites who are uncomfortable voting for a racist”, said Frank Sharry, founder and executive director of the immigration advocacy group America’s Voice.
Conway said she was “very moved” by a comment Trump made that blacks are “living in poverty” and don’t have anything to lose in voting for him.
The national polls have become slightly tighter – Democrat Hillary Clinton leads by a poll average of 5.3 per cent – but the polls in the the swing states which decide the election heavily favour Clinton.
Over the past few months, Trump has failed to live up to assurances made by surrogates like Manafort and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus that the candidate was on the verge of becoming more disciplined, such as when he engaged in protracted fight with the a Gold Star family following the Democratic National Convention.
“I’m not flip flopping”, Trump said.
Trump’s campaign reboot is about “substance [and] about the issues”, Conway said.
Trump’s tweets come after he spent a rare week reading from teleprompters and sticking to message following a campaign shake-up.
Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, disputed claims of a turnaround in Trump’s candidacy.

“We’re gonna pivot to the substance”, she added. “He wants to double down on letting Donald Trump be Donald Trump”, he said.
