The firing comes amid ongoing concerns related to Russian Federation and North Korea, two countries Tillerson cited when he addressed his firing in a statement streamed live on WFMZ.com Tuesday afternoon.

The official said Trump works well with Pompeo, a former Republican congressman from Kansas, and wanted him in place before the USA president’s planned talks with North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, and trade negotiations.
Though Trump and other officials said he’d been considering replacing Tillerson for some time, the president said he made the decision only recently and “by myself”. Tillerson pushed back. While Trump traded braggadocious tweets with Kim Jong Un, even threatening to attack if pushed to the brink, Tillerson sought to walk softly – and without a big stick.
Cyr noted Alexander Haig, who served as secretary of state from January 1981 until July 1982 under President Ronald Reagan, resigned after a comparably short tenure in the position.
Several senior politicians said they would challenge her over torture, ensuring a likely heated debate when she goes up before the Senate Intelligence Committee for confirmation in the coming weeks.
“I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man”, Trump wrote on Twitter, using a pejorative nickname for Kim.
Pompeo, a former Republican congressman, has been one of Trump’s most loyal cabinet members and more in sync with Trump on foreign policies.
Torture has since been explicitly outlawed by the government, and despite Trump’s endorsement of it, there have been no reports of the United States intelligence agencies returning to the practice.
If confirmed, 61-year-old Gina Haspel would become the first female head of the Central Intelligence Agency.
The crux of the July 2015 pact between Iran and six major powers – Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States – was that Iran would restrict its nuclear programme in return for relief from sanctions that have crippled its economy.
But this is the Trump White House, where controversy is never far away. Gary Cohn recently announced his resignation as director of the National Economic Council.
The “rewarding part of leadership” during Mr Tillerson’s 14 months as the top U.S. diplomat was “getting a few things done”.
A USA intelligence community report in January 2017 found with “high confidence” that Russian President Vladimir Putin approved an “influence campaign” that would help Trump and hurt Hillary Clinton. More important, in addition to clearly enjoying Trump’s confidence, he has deeply honed political skills that Tillerson, a former ExxonMobil CEO with no governmental experience, lacked – including an ease at dealing with Congress and the press. But this dynamic led to inconsistencies in White House positions.
Tillerson was reported to have privately called Trump a “moron” in July after the president suggested a 10-fold increase in the USA nuclear arsenal.
Back on TV after her White House gig, Manigault Newman recently warned on “Celebrity Big Brother” that the USA would “not be OK” under Trump, prompting White House spokesman Raj Shah to respond: “Omarosa was sacked three times on ‘The Apprentice.’ And this was the fourth time we let her go”. It is furthermore said that he was supposed to strengthen economic ties between the U.S. and Africa. “The department undertook a global campaign to bring partners and allies on board in every country around the world, with every embassy and mission raising this to the highest levels”. Tensions with the Asian nation were some of the top concerns expressed by Sen. “Abe and Trump have a close relationship, so it’s no problem”, a source close to Abe said.
Tillerson thanked colleagues for “the privilege of serving beside you for the last 14 months” and thanked the American people for their “devotion to a free and open society” during a speech at the State Department headquarters, noting that “much remains to be done”.
The undersecretary for public affairs at the State Department, Steve Goldstein, offered a different account of Tillerson’s departure. An appointment for the ambassador to South Korea fell apart at the last minute. “The Senate should not confirm Deputy Director Haspel to lead the CIA”, Nadler said. “However, my understanding is he doesn’t want the deal to disappear”, said a former senior USA official.

In contrast to Tillerson, who explicitly ruled out regime change in North Korea, Pompeo has been more hawkish in his public comments.
