Ms. Griffith, an agent with Trump global Realty, said there was an offer to rent the floor-through apartment for more than $80,000 a month, before Mr. Trump accepted the sale.
According to the Wall Street Journal, which reported the sale Monday, Trump purchased the Upper East Side building for $115 million in 2001 and later turned it into condos.
“In his mind, it was a strong market and it was a good time to get a deal done”, Griffith told the Journal.
Prices for Manhattan co-ops and condominiums reached a record in the second quarter – an average of US$1.87 million – as bidding wars broke out over a limited number of listings, according to appraiser Miller Samuel Inc and brokerage Douglas Elliman Real Estate.
Griffith, a specialist for the Trump Park Avenue building, which is at 59th Stteet, could not say if the money for the all-cash deal was intended for presidential hopeful’s Trump’s campaign coffers.
The buyer’s agents, Alatia Bradley Bach and Leighton Candler of Corcoran Group, declined to name their client.
