Trump immigration waffle reflects voter confusion on issue

Trump told Cooper that there would be no path to legalization unless an undocumented immigrant leaves the country and then returns through legal channels.

“When they come back in, then they can start paying taxes, but there is no path to legalization unless they leave the country and then come back”, Trump said.

However, the Manhattan real-estate mogul has declined to clarify whether he would still forcibly deport the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the USA – a major tenet of his immigration platform – after he suggested earlier this week that he was “softening” on the idea and also made a series of comments that indicated a path to legalisation was likely as long as they paid taxes accumulated from their time living here illegally.

In 2012, while supporting Mitt Romney, Trump still criticized the then Republican nominee for having too harsh and uncaring an immigration policy. “Marco Rubio is totally weak on illegal immigration & in favor of easy amnesty”, Trump declared over Twitter last fall.

Opponents including Rubio, Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich denounced Trump’s proposals, insisting there was no way to eject 11 million people from the country. “Except change his immigration policies”.

When Pierson makes the comment, laughter can be heard off camera, but it isn’t completely clear who is guffawing at her comment.

He put heavy emphasis on building “a wall that absolutely works”. Lots of people were brought out of the country with the existing laws.

As Clinton tarred him with representing the “alt-right” at a speech in Reno, Nevada, Trump offered his own pushbacks, saying he was not acquainted with the fringe world that Clinton said had essentially merged with his campaign.

“Everybody agrees we get the bad ones out, ‘ Trump said”. ‘But when I go through and I meet thousands and thousands of people on this subject, and I’ve had very strong people come up to me, really great, great people come up to me, and they’ve said, ‘Mr.

‘I have it all the time! It’s a very, very hard thing, ‘ he said.

But on Wednesday, Trump appeared at a town hall meeting with Fox News’ Sean Hannity and said he wasn’t sure if he wanted carry through on his prior promises to tear out the nation’s entire unauthorized immigrant population root and branch.

‘They’ll pay back taxes – they have to pay taxes, ‘ Trump said. ‘There’s no amnesty, as such.

“No amnesty, but we work with them”, Trump said.

Now Trump is apparently signaling a major shift in his policy, saying that he’s open to working with undocumented immigrants rather than deporting them all.

I can only say that whatever his views are this morning, they might change this afternoon, and they were different than they were last night, and they’ll be different tomorrow.

What Donald Trump has been doing lately is try to have it both ways. If asked further on this, I think he would come back to this point: we have to restore the respect for the rule of law in America, ‘ King said. Jeff Sessions, along with former Sessions adviser Stephen Miller, who is a member of Trump’s campaign staff. Sounds like a typical politician, by the way…all the things Donald Trump railed against, he seems to be morphing into. But I assure you, nothing has changed in terms of the policies’.

Once he got in the race, Trump declared he would round up all 11 million illegal aliens in the country and send them packing.

In July 2015, Christie repeated called for expanding use of the E-Verify system, calling it the “most important” tool the government could use to curtail illegal immigration. We either have borders or we don’t.
