Trump in Louisiana to survey floods as Manafort resigns

His move to show compassion for a heavily African-American region that is suffering grievously shows a side of Trump that many, particularly his family, say they see all the time behind the scenes – a caring man who worries about individuals and is far less abrasive in private than he can seem on the stump. “I lost my auto, but, at the same time, it could’ve been a lot worse than that…just being able to come in here and put a smile on someone’s face, that’s important to me”. Donald Trump’s the way to wake us up.

Hillary Clinton, Trump’s Democratic rival in the November 8 presidential election, said in a Twitter post earlier this week she was closely monitoring the situation and directed people to the Red Cross. At the same time, party leaders have conceded they may divert resources away from the presidential contest in favor of vulnerable Senate and House candidates if things don’t improve.

“You can get rid of Manafort, but that doesn’t end the odd bromance Trump has with Putin”, campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement. “The president’s presence is already late to this crisis, but it’s better late than never”.

“Nobody understands how bad it is”, Trump told reporters, after briefly helping unload a truck of supplies while cameras captured the moment.

Trump’s decision to tap Stephen Bannon, a combative conservative media executive, as his new campaign chief suggested to some that he might continue the divisive rhetoric that has angered minorities and alienated large swaths of the general election electorate. According to WIRED, “This is the eighth time in about a year that 500-year rainfall has hammered the USA, and climate change will make extreme weather events like this more common”.

The Republican presidential nominee’s ad is one of two different spots in a $5 million swing state as buy that begins Friday and runs for the next 10 days.

Even as most schools in the Baton Rouge area ready to reopen in the coming days, public schools in the hard-hit town of Central area won’t reopen until after Labor Day at the earliest and perhaps later.

Clinton’s comments come after Donald Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence, traveled to Baton Rouge on Friday to tour the damage.

Hillary Clinton has called Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards to discuss the state’s devastating flooding and says the state’s relief effort, “can’t afford any distractions”. Although the suburb just outside Lansing is overwhelmingly white, Trump made an appeal to black voters.

“A couple of weeks ago, it seems like everybody was pulling apart”.

“What the hell do you have to lose?”

Clinton’s campaign, meanwhile, brushed off the speech off as just words he read from a teleprompter.

Watching news reports of disasters is hard, but it can be even more difficult when you know people involved in the tragedy.

Rae Anne Antoone of Central said she lost everything in the flood.

But several Trump supporters at the rally applauded the move.

Obama has been receiving regular updates and briefings on the situation throughout his vacation, including from Edwards said the White House. “I need a hand up, not out”, she said as she sat on a cot in a shelter in neighboring Ascension Parish, her few belongings stacked around her.

Still, some said it was unnecessary.

“This disaster is the worst to hit the United States since Superstorm Sandy”, said Brad Kieserman, the Red Cross’ vice president of disaster services operations and logistics – and that was on Wednesday, before weekend forecasts increased the likelihood of yet more rain.
