Trump Intervention by Top Republicans Hopes to Reset Campaign After Disastrous Week
“I am confident that he’s going to start doing it”, Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign manager, told Fox News, denying reports that there had been an “emergency meeting” to get Trump on message. It’s not John McCain, or Kelly Ayotte, or Paul Ryan, or Mr. Khan and their family. “I would say that in the last couple weeks, he has been remarkably underperforming, and we’ll see whether or not he can take a deep breath and learn these lessons”.

“I know how hard John works for veterans, for the military, for our national security- and I know that John McCain is a national treasure”, Gingrich said in his Thursday endorsement.
Gingrich is said to be spearheading a potential “intervention” to get the Trump candidacy on track for a November win.
Trump has used The Big Tent approach as a bridge for the portion of the speech where he was supposed to endorse his three reluctant colleagues for the sake of party unity, and as a new opportunity to reaffirm “our shared mission to make America great again”. When Trump was waging his campaign against Judge Gonzalo Curiel, murmurs began anew that GOP brass might withdraw its support en masse or consider nominating another candidate at the convention if Trump didn’t zip it.
But Gingrich is convinced Trump can withstand the current chaos and thrive in the fall campaign.
ABC News has learned that senior party officials are so frustrated – and confused – by Donald Trump’s erratic behavior that they are exploring how to replace him on the ballot if he drops out. If you’re okay with that as the state of the Republican nominee’s campaign in the first week of August – “we probably didn’t lose many votes over this needless squabble” – then okay.
Giuliani was reportedly one of the members of a planned intervention with Trump in order to convince him of a campaign reset.
“He doesn’t get to say ‘you’re fired, ‘” Gingrich concluded on Trump in his interview with Fox.
Notwithstanding all the Trump-related drama within the GOP, Giuliani said that the tycoon had learned from the ensuing media storm, and that there was still plenty of time for Trump to refashion his bid.

Trump’s counterclaims that the elder Khan had “no right to stand in front of millions of people and claim that I have never read the Constitution” left himself even more isolated among the GOP establishment and his allies. So was General Michael Flynn, who introduced him, putting a spin on the alleged intervention: “This is an intervention”, he said, referring to the campaign and its supporters. Trump said. He added a few moments later: “If we don’t make it all the way, it’d be a waste of time, wouldn’t it?” But Trump quickly reverted to his old ways, setting off alarm bells in some parts of the party.
