The survey by CNN/ORC, carried out just after Mr Trump accepted the Republican party’s nomination for U.S. president, found 57 per cent of people were “very positive” and 18 per cent were “somewhat positive” about his remarks, which focussed on his central message of keeping people safe from perceived threats, such as immigration from South America, Islamist terrorism and violent crime.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump addresses delegates at the end of the last day of the Republican National Convention on July 21, 2016, in Cleveland. The lead is within the poll’s margin of error of 3 percentage points in either direction, meaning that the apparent lead could be the result of chance.
But eyes will now pivot to Clinton.
The point echoed throughout – from his guarantee to bring jobs “roaring back into our country. fast” to his promise that “we will be a country of generosity and warmth” but also “of law and order” to his vow to “rescue kids from failing schools by helping their parents send them to a safe school of their choice”. The 34-year old businesswoman and former model talked about her father’s yearning to improve America, childcare, equal pay for women and other issues close to her heart, with a poise some found befitting of the White House.
Cruz’s speech was another stumble at a convention marked by several missteps, including a speech by Trump’s wife, Melania, that included lines similar to those in a 2008 Democratic convention speech by President Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle.
Foreigners from terror-linked countries would be banned, a wall built on the Mexican border and trade deals ripped up and renegotiated.
“No one knows the system better than me”, he said. No good. And we are going to stop it.
Trump’s daughter Ivanka introduced her father before the speech.
He began by stating that the convention was happening “at a moment of crisis” for the United States.
The couple both take part in the Trump campaign’s “family meeting” each Monday morning, helping make decisions about spending and strategy, according to a source familiar with the meetings.
Republicans who have questioned Trump’s grasp of foreign policy reacted with indignation. Sen. I have seen him fight for his employees. And says Republicans should get specific, too.
“Hillary Clinton is proposing mass amnesty, mass immigration, and mass lawlessness”. The real-estate mogul formally accepted the Republican nomination for president the night before.
Trump painted her as corrupt, incompetent and hopelessly out of touch. “Death, destruction, terrorism and weakness”, he said of her legacy.
Underscoring his unorthodox candidacy, Mr Trump set out the hardline immigration policies that fired up conservatives in the Republican contest, but broke with many in his party by promising protections for gays and lesbians. The likely candidate is Kaine who, not coincidentally, comes from an important swing state.
Tom Vilsack, from Pittsburgh and known to the Clintons for years, could help in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania.
The division has been alarming to the establishment members of the party.
Trump also hammered hard to idea that he is a “law and order” candidate, someone who will end the violence on America’s streets.

“My father not only has the strength and ability necessary to be the next president, but also the kindness and compassion”, she said.
