Trump Leads Clinton In National Polls Ahead Of Democratic Convention
A smaller weekly Morning Consult national tracking poll, taken over the weekend after the Republican National Convention ended in Cleveland, showed that Trump gained women supporters as part of the traditional “convention bump” that shows a spike in polls for the candidate who has just been nominated.

The latest poll measures Trump against Clinton, the Green Party’s Jill Stein (three percent) and Libertarian Gary Johnson (nine percent).
WUNC’s American Homefront reporter Jay Price speaks with Jeff Tiberii following Hillary Clinton’s address to the VFW Convention in Charlotte.
The new findings mark Trump’s best showing in a CNN/ORC Poll against Clinton since September.
Trump is now more trusted in settling economic issues, dealing with terrorism and managing foreign policy than Hillary Clinton, the poll continues.
Mrs Clinton has chosen Virginia senator Tim Kaine, who once described himself as “the most boring man in politics”, as her vice-presidential running mate.
Among Republicans who watched the convention, 83 percent said they now have a more favorable view of Trump, and 69 percent have a more positive view of their party.
Before the convention, Trump had the support of 31 percent compared with 34 percent for Clinton, 22 percent for Johnson and 10 percent for Stein.
Clinton’s favorability is now 32 percent, her worst rating in CNN/ORC polling. Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced late a year ago that all military combat positions were being opened to women, a move Clinton heralded. Also, 18 percent called Trump’s speech “terrible”, the highest since CNN first asked the question in 1996.
The public rendered a split decision on whether the convention made them more or less likely to back Trump, 42% said more likely while 44% said less so, but the shift in voter preferences suggests the “more likely” side carried more weight. Seven percent of voters were still undecided.
“If you want somebody who will scapegoat other people, peddle fear, and smear, I am not your candidate”, she said. For Clinton, it’s 44 percent.
There hasn’t been much of a change with state polling since last week as of yet. The error margin is plus or minus 3 percent, according to the information accompanying the poll.

Clinton is still popular with Democrats, with 71% viewing her favorably while just 8% view her unfavorably. The survey took place from June 1-July 14, and an additional poll was taken the week of the convention.
