Trump Looks for Win in Industrial Midwest

It’s Michigan’s turn to influence the presidential race. Bernie Sanders. Eight percent said they are undecided.

Ryan Knott, a 43-year old who works for a local nonprofit, says he voted for Sanders because he’s pushing the Democratic Party in a direction that Knott says he likes. But because of the difference in how both parties award their delegates, Clinton’s is the more commanding lead. Nevertheless, Trump was leading significantly in numerous polls ahead of the primary.

Idaho and Hawaii vote Tuesday as well, a chance to pick up more delegates. Romney, who’s said he’ll officially back a GOP candidate sometime after next week’s primaries, isn’t yet urging voters to support Rubio, so much as he’s encouraging Republicans to vote for someone other than Trump.

It’s part of an escalating effort by Romney to block Donald Trump from securing the Republican presidential nomination. Now, the people of Florida can’t stand him.

“I would like to take on Ted one-on-one”, he said, ticking off a list of big states where he said Cruz had no chance. “I think it’s important when you go to a convention, if we end up there, which it looks like we will, that it be a fair process”.

She said the campaign has contacted those responsible and demanded that they stop using the campaign’s official logo. It was, undoubtedly, the first time a presidential front-runner had interrupted a political event to sell steaks and alcohol with his name on them. All were in the state for debates in recent days.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich was in a fight for second place in MI and hoping a good showing would give him a boost heading into next week’s crucial contest in his home state. In Mississippi, it was Cruz.

For Rubio, the night was shaping up as a disaster.

Fifty-nine Republican delegates are up for grabs, the third-highest so far in the GOP tilt. This year, there are four remaining candidates in the race-Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and John Kasich-and it’s unlikely that all four of them will amass eight states each in which they have a majority of delegates. Rubio’s candidacy seems to be flagging.

Trump created a group identity by powerfully distinguishing an aggrieved “us” from a guilty “them” and offered a clear (albeit completely inaccurate) explanation of why things are the way they are: it’s “their” fault, the fault of the Mexicans and Muslims, the African-Americans and the Jews. She has performed better in those demographics since Sanders won in New Hampshire just over a month ago, and MI is a good bellwether for Clinton.

Clinton picked up at least 55 delegates to Sanders’ 47 in Saturday’s contests, with seven delegates yet to be allocated. Such massive losses were also partly responsible for him losing the close Nevada caucuses.

Still, a Monmouth University poll of MI on Monday showed Trump with a big lead and again benefitting from a split opposition against him.

For both Clinton and Trump, Mississippi was the latest in a series of victories across the Deep South, which have helped both cement their status as front-runners.

Mrs Clinton’s lead is even bigger when including superdelegates, the party leaders who can support any candidate they wish.

The contests come on what is being dubbed Super Tuesday 2. Barack Obama twice carried the state easily. Winning the GOP nomination requires 1,237 delegates. He picked up 39 percent of those voters in Virginia, for example, according to exit polls.

“No matter who wins this Democratic nomination”, she said, “I have not the slightest doubt that on our worst day we will be infinitely better than the Republicans on their best day”.

Early exit polling data found Trump with a small edge among evangelical Christians.

A spokeswoman for Cruz said Tuesday that the missive was not authorized by his campaign. In Mississippi, that group accounted for just 15 percent of the electorate.
