Trump met in NY with the National Hispanic Advisory Council for Trump – a coalition of elected officials, business leaders and faith leaders – with hopes of improving relations with Latino voters.

The RNC’s statement said the meeting would involve a discussion with Hispanic leaders about ways to ensure the Hispanic community “understands Mr. Trump’s proposals”.

‘Tonight, I’m asking for the vote of every single African-American citizen in this country who wants to see a better future, ‘ Trump told the crowd.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump speaks to the media during a campaign stop in Stafford, Virginia August 20, 2016.

He launched his campaign previous year with a speech that accused Mexico of sending rapists and criminals across the border, and has since vowed to deport all of the estimated 11million people living in the United States illegally.

Saturday’s pitch to Hispanics is Trump’s most serious attempt to make a similar pitch to Hispanics, a crucial and growing voting bloc that could help decide majorities in battleground states like Nevada, Colorado, and Arizona.

A cheery Mr Trump greeted reporters in NY, accompanied by campaign manager Kellyanne Conway and Mr Stephen Bannon, the Breitbart News Network executive brought on this month as chief executive of Mr Trump’s White House bid.

Trump’s campaign underwent a significant restructuring earlier this week, as he installed Conway and Bannon in their respective roles, and campaign chairman Paul Manafort resigned.

At a rally in suburban MI on Friday night, Trump said to the crowd that “no group in America has been more harmed by Hillary Clinton’s policies than African Americans”.

“The people hurt most by our open border are low-income Hispanic and African-Americans who are competing for jobs and community resources against new arrivals”, he said.

‘What do you have to lose by trying something new, like Trump?’ he asked them. Mr Trump said. “You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed”.

Democrats were quick to denounce Trump’s comments in MI, with Democratic National Committee official Brandon Davis on Saturday saying Trump “has shown little interest engaging the black community and his comments underscore just how out of touch he is with the African American community”.

Donald Trump predicts that he would win “over 95%” of the African-American vote in Y 2020 because he “recognizes that he’s not going to get a lot of those votes the 1st time around” in November, surrogate Ben Carson said Saturday.
