Trump meets with more than 200 House Republicans

U.S. Rep. John Katko is being targeted as part of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s seven-figure nationwide ad campaign linking vulnerable Republicans to presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Sasse, the only Republican senator who consistently has said he will oppose Trump even if he is his party’s nominee, strode to the front of the room where Trump was about to meet with GOP senators and introduced himself.

Cruz’s camp also said Trump asked the conservative senator at the meeting to serve as an adviser to potential Trump administration judicial nominations. The two former rivals met with the Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus at the National Republican Senatorial Committee headquarters, in which Trump also met with several party leaders, as reported by CNN.

In return, Cruz reportedly agreed that he would not attempt a coup at the convention and would allow Trump’s handlers to look over his remarks before he delivered them, the Times reported. He disagrees with Trump over the need for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, for example, and has concerns about some statements Trump has made that are supportive of recent Russian aggression in the Ukraine, a McCain campaign spokeswoman said. “And we had a very good exchange on just lost of ideas and lots of policy issues, so I thought it was a very good meeting”. A WSJ survey shows that Donald Trump’s intraparty foes are waging an intense effort to push for a vote on freeing delegates to back whomever they wish. It wasn’t enough for others, as lawmakers who have been wary of Trump’s incendiary comments and off-putting campaign style said they remain unconvinced. First of all, I think we all have to admit, Donald Trump is his own brand. At one point, somebody asked about Article I powers: What will you do to protect them?

The two other senators that Trump called out were Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Mark Kirk of IL.

Trump said at the meeting that he has yet to attack Flake hard but threatened to begin doing so. It wasn’t practical to cancel a meeting held at the same time as Trump’s visit, McCain said.

But considering Trump’s unconventional path to winning the Republican presidential nomination, and his background as a billionaire businessman rather than a public servant, some have questioned whether Trump really wants the presidency.

House speaker Paul Ryan said Mr Trump sought to put the Saddam comment “into context, so people understood the context in which he was speaking about getting tough on terrorism”.

The Texas senator has so far refused to endorse Trump, but has not ruled it out. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said he was scheduled to preside over the Senate but that others would benefit more anyway from seeing Trump.

Trump will run against Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state and senator from NY.
