Trump now at war with GOP

In the meantime John Kasich called the Republican presidential primary delegate process “bizarre” on Monday and said the Republican National Convention should adopt rules that would open up the nomination to more candidates. He added: “We’re really way up in votes, in terms of the voters…but the Colorado thing was very unfair”.

“I do not want, nor will I accept the nomination for our party”, Ryan said in a press conference Tuesday.

Mr Trump leads the race but may fall short of getting enough delegates to get the nomination outright. Cruz, who had staffers courting delegates as early as Super Tuesday, had already secured delegates in some congressional districts.

Trump may likely still go to the national convention with a plurality of delegates, but if he is denied a majority – and the nomination – it will be because of choices party insiders like those in Colorado made along the way. Further complicating the math, delegates are awarded like so: 317 by district, 105 at-large statewide, 53 to party leaders and 71 as unpledged superdelegates.

Indiana’s primary, for example, won’t take place until next month.

The delegates to the national convention could play a key role in selecting the party’s nominee.

By contrast, 51 percent say they wouldn’t consider voting for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a general election and 38 percent wouldn’t consider voting for Vermont Sen. “That’s where he’s been shut out of the game”.

That tally surpasses 170 delegates under less conservative assumptions – a number that could make it impossible for Trump to emerge victorious. Trump has maintained a large lead in his home state, leaving Cruz and Kasich little opportunity to gain momentum before the Maryland contest. Ted Cruz absent a primary or caucus. The deadline to register as a candidate for delegate was March 15.

In the at least nine states that have picked some or all of their delegates, Trump has won a total of 100 delegates in primaries and caucuses in these states. “There’s no one that’s been more visible on the campaign than the two of us”.

Ted Cruz has stepped up the Anti-Trump rhetoric in recent interviews after a solid victory in Colorado, which Trump strongly criticized this week, calling the victory the result of a rigged and crooked system.

“The RNC doesn’t like this happening”.

“If Trump’s not winning delegates out in the field, it’s because they neglected the process”, he said. That is violence. It is oppressive. Trump ceded center stage for much of the evening, as his children answered a dozen question from the New York City audience and attempted to cast a warm, humanizing light on their sometimes abrasive father.
