Trump on Putin: Take His Word For It
A day after Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Donald Trump as a “very outstanding man, unquestionably talented”, the Republican presidential candidate seemed pleased.

“They are allegations. Yeah sure there are allegations”.
Trump then challenged reporters to come up with hard evidence that the Kremlin, under Putin’s rule, has ever been involved with an assassination attempt on a journalist. “In fact, Europe gave up part of its powers not to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation but to NATO’s leading country – the United States”, Putin said.
Grilled about the matter on Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” show, Trump defended Putin’s record regarding Russian journalists who have died.
Speaking on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, Trump called the killings of reporters “horrible”, though he noted that Putin has admitted no role in their deaths. Trump asked. “You know, you’ve been hearing this, but I haven’t seen the names”. “He’s running his country, and at least he’s a leader”, Trump replied, “unlike what we have in this country”. “I have discussed it recently with President Obama, and with our counterparts from Saudi Arabia, from other Arab countries”, Putin said.
The decision would be illegal and unconstitutional but not unexpected given Trump’s dismissal of legal barriers to some of his other proposals, the “announcer” says. Trump embraced Putin’s praise as a “great honor”.
During a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Saturday, Trump said Clinton is “like a snake with no energy”. “He’s a dictator. He’s a bully”, declared the former Florida governor, adding that the Russian president admires strength and the United States should demonstrate strength to counter him in the global arena. “You’re just saying, he killed reporters”. You’re supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, at least in our country. “I think that would be despicable”. I’m saying when you say a man killed reporters I’d like you to prove it. I have never seen any information or any proof that he killed reporters, George, you’re just saying, he killed reporters.
“I’ve been saying for months that whenever Trump opens his mouth and says something, I’m going ‘OK, where have I heard this before?”
Trump also derided the “people that aren’t very smart that are in politics” who have been unhappy with Russia’s actions in Syria, which have often been at odds with US military strategy.
“What killing sanctioned by the USA government is like killing journalists?” “It has not been proven that he’s killed reporters”. “I would never do that”. “As far as I know, the Turkish side has not yet issued a permit required to launch this project and make it a priority project”.

212 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney took to Twitter to point out “Important distinction: thug Putin kills journalists and opponents; our presidents kill terrorists and enemy combatants”.
