If the Democratic nominee was anyone but Hillary Clinton, this movement to support Trump would run into barriers, but it’s not within the DNA of Republicans to be able to support a Clinton any more than you could convince me that Laura Bush would be a good president.
Sen. Tony Hwang of Fairfield, who chaired Kasich’s campaign in CT, didn’t return a call Thursday.
Trump, a real estate magnate who has been sweeping primary contests, was all but guaranteed the party nod Tuesday evening after his closest competitor, Texas Sen.
“He’s the lesser of the evils, but my fear about him is just that he has no patience to deal with the Congress, and that he would be executive order on steroids”, said state Rep. Kathleen Conti (R-Littleton).
“I hope to support our nominee, I hope to support his candidacy fully”, Ryan said on CNN. But the last two weeks have been all about how Trump is a flawed candidate, how women hate him, how he is a threat to our very safety and yet, he cruised in the last six primaries and knocked Cruz and Kasich out of the race.
Speaking to reporters in Columbus, Ohio, Kasich didn’t outline his reasons for ending his bid or mention Trump.
From 17 republican candidates a year ago to one Thursday, Trump beat them all.
Speaking in an interview with The Associated Press, Trump said that it was still early in the process to select a running mate, but that he would soon form a committee to begin vetting running mates.
What’s their plan moving forward? And they think Trump would do a better job than Clinton addressing it, by a 50% to 45% margin. Clinton led Trump 41% to 36% in March.
Major Garrett, who has been covering the Republican race, said senior Trump advisers have told him if Trump is the issue, they lose.
But in a statement released after Trump’s rivals dropped out of the race on Wednesday, the Republican Jewish Coalition uncharacteristically withheld praise for the likely candidate or his qualifications. He added Clinton’s slogan: “I’m with her”. I have got some bad news for her. Trump didn’t identify any of the names under consideration.
“We are looking at an election cycle where for the first time in the modern era, the nominee of both political parties could not only be underwater on their image, but significantly underwater, based on what we know today”, said Rob Simms, executive director of the NRCC. “Honestly, there are some people I really don’t want”. “I don’t necessarily agree, but I can understand that point of view”, the mogul said.
Long said a similar scenario played out among establishment Republicans in the 1980 presidential election when some warned that Ronald Reagan would be “a divisive drag on the whole GOP ticket”. “My heart goes out to Cruz who has a bright future”.
