Trump postpones Friday VP announcement because of truck massacre in France

Donald Trump abruptly postponed plans to announce his vice presidential pick Thursday night following a day of rampant speculation, citing the “horrible attack” in Nice, France, that left scores dead.

In order to assume the role of Trump’s running mate, Pence must forgo running for re-election as Indiana’s governor, a decision he is legally bound to make by Friday.

Pence arrived in NY on Thursday evening, and Trump was expected to make a formal announcement on Friday in Manhattan.

Trump announced the delay through his Twitter account.

The Trump campaign did not announce a new date for the announcement. Chris Christie was among the finalists.

Late Thursday, a truck drive onto the sidewalk and plowed through a crowd of revelers who’d been gathered to watch Bastille Day fireworks in Nice, France.

A former talk-radio host and congressman, Pence is well-regarded among those in the conservative movement.

Before postponing his running mate announcement, Trump commented on the attack.
