Ted Cruz (R-Texas) late in Saturday night’s CBS Republican debate while arguing about Trump’s more liberal past. “We are in danger of driving this into the dirt”, one of the CBS debate moderators said at one point.

US Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump continues to expose the Bush family’s role in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in an effort to destroy Jeb Bush’s campaign, an American scholar and political analyst says.
One person in the Republican Party who disappointed on primary night was Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL). Trump’s extraordinary assault on Jeb Bush, ‘ and ‘The World Trade Center came down’: “Donald Trump and Jeb Bush unload on each other in explosive debate exchange”, he added.
Here are some of the top moments and takeaways from the debate.
Kasich also said he would pick a conservative to replace Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, whose death was announced just hours before the debate, which sparked strong arguments by the candidates about how and who should replace the conservative justice.
All the candidates sided with GOP congressional leaders, who said earlier that any nomination to fill Scalia’s vacancy should happen under a new president, putting them at odds with Democrats and the White House.
Responding to the man who asked him about the debates, Rubio said he plans to remain faithful and do the best he can. “It’s called delay, delay, delay”. “If all the people who say, ‘I love Ben Carson and his policies, but he can’t win, ‘ vote for me, not only can we win, but we can turn this thing around”, he said in closing. They want politicians who are reasoned, collegial and presidential. (Which is why I’m blogging even before it’s over) The death of a larger-than-life justice of the United States Supreme Court.
In the GOP, Trump started out as a seemingly factional candidate with little hope of sustaining his momentum.
How could Bush campaign for Trump after the charges that George W. Bush didn’t keep the country safe on 9/11 and blundered into the Iraq war? “I want them to come together”, said Adrian Missana, a mechanical engineer from Simpsonville, South Carolina. “You are probably worse than Jeb Bush”, Trump screamed at Cruz as the two entered into feisty exchange of words. – When Jeb gets up and says we were safe under his brother, we weren’t safe.
“It is absolutely ludicrous to suggest that Russian Federation could be a positive partner in this”, Mr Bush said. “The World Trade Center came down during the reign of George Bush”.
This is a scientifically representative poll of these voters’ reaction to the debate. The two later tussled again when Bush pointed out the bankruptcies Trump’s companies had filed for – and Trump kept interrupting and talking over both Bush and Dickerson, calling Bush a liar and saying he personally never filed for bankruptcy. Jeb Bush pushed back: “You [Trump] should not use eminent domain for private purposes”.
Trump also challenged Meet The Press host Chuck Todd on the claim that he called Bush – who is very popular in SC – a liar.
“Obviously, the war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake, all right?” he said. And it worked. “Tonight, the light overcame the darkness”, he told supporters Tuesday night after his second-place finish to Trump.
He will arrive for the evening rally in the midst of a most unlikely election season, in which the far-and-away front-runner, nationally and in the Palmetto State, is Donald Trump.
Former Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, who has not endorsed in the race but who served in the House with Kasich, said the ground game Kasich unleashed in New Hampshire won’t be possible in the southern states.
There are big divides in the GOP on immigration, beyond just Trump’s heated rhetoric and his repeated exhortations that Mexico will pay for his vaunted border wall.
Saturday’s tone appears to be “the type of rhetoric that actually brings out Trump’s voters in the primaries”, said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute in New Jersey.
“Marco right now supports citizenship for 12 million people here illegally”, Cruz said on the debate stage. They felt completely betrayed when the Republicans abandoned them on many social issues, immigration in particular. Ted Cruz of Texas.
There are six days, two town hall meetings and a passel of TV spots before South Carolina Republicans go to the polls on Saturday. This is just nuts. Donald Trump took second with 24 percent and John Kasich third with 19 percent.

“I think we’re fixing to lose the election to Hillary Clinton if we don’t stop this”, he said, somewhat exasperated, at one point.
