Marco Rubio jumped to second place in the latest poll, with 17% support, marking a jump up three percentage points since the last survey.
Clinton at 46 percent to Carson’s 43 percent compared to Carson’s 50 – 40 percent lead last month. Rubio spokesman Alex Conant responded: “While Senator Cruz voted to gut U.S. intelligence programs and make Americans less safe, nobody has shown a better understanding of the threats we face in the 21st Century than Marco”.
Cruz suspects that Democrats such as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are making up fabrications about Republicans wanting to ban contraceptives because they share opposing views on other issues important to women-such as abortion.
Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, has sought to seduce voters on the left, but his campaign, which soared in the summer, appears to have come down to Earth and is plodding along with little gain against Clinton.
Clinton has extended her lead over Sanders, further solidifying her as the frontrunner in the race.
The 72-question telephone survey, conducted among registered voters by one of the more accurate political pollsters, also asked about specific voting concerns and uncovers a revealing shift in priorities. “Republicans would curl up in a ball, they’d say, ‘Don’t hurt me.’ Jiminy Cricket!”
Just 42 percent of GOP voters now say Carson has the right experience to be president, down from 64 percent last month.
The poll showed a clear difference between the stated priorities of Republican and Democratic voters. No other candidate tops 3 percent, with 8 percent undecided.
While it’s unlikely abortion will overtake the economy or national security as the top priority for voters, the issue has been in the political spotlight this fall after videos surfaced showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing retrieving fetal tissue.
Republican presidential candidate Texas Sen. He also won among men and women who vote Republican, according to the poll. There are just over 60 days until the Iowa caucus and eleven months until the general election.
Ben Carson also polls 16%.
Even less reliable are responses about hypothetical scenarios about the presidential election which the interviewers described to respondents. He is sixth in favorability (22) and that score is a significant improvement since August, when it was at negative one.
Imagine for a second youre Hillary Clinton, Cruz explained. Clinton and Sanders both barely top Rubio at 44-43.
