Sanders’ plans to continue campaigning and spread his message.
The Vermont senator is changing his tune and endorsing his one-time rival saying, “Hillary Clinton will make an outstanding president and I am proud to stand with her today”. Despite his sparring with Clinton over the past year, Sanders declared an end to their political rivalry in order to defeat their common enemy: Donald Trump.
His decision to endorse Clinton came after the party completed meetings on the party platform, where several of his progressive goals were heard.
Secretary Clinton is now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee and is expected to be officially named to represent the party in the upcoming general election at the Democratic National Convention, which is set to kick off on July 25 in Philadelphia.
He closed with a personal note, telling supporters, “I can not say with words how appreciative Jane and I are of the kindness, dedication and love we experienced from so many people across the country”.
Stein also wrote that she doesn’t think Clinton believes in Sanders’ mission – tweeting that if Clinton did, she would choose him as her running mate.
Meanwhile, the Trump campaign blasted Sanders for throwing his support behind Clinton on Tuesday.
“We’re going to hear from Hillary Clinton – the obligations that we have as senators to carry forward on a program that is not dominated by Trump”, said Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, of Nevada.
“You know what I like about Hillary?” said Pauline Raiche, of Brentwood.
