Trump retreats from vow to deport all living in US illegally

Amid the growing uproar in Mexico over the meeting, Pena Nieto told Televisa’s Denise Maerker that he’d invited Trump because his policies are a threat to Mexico – precisely the reason why most Mexicans think he shouldn’t have met with him.

During his visit, Trump did not apologise or make any concessions to Mexico, as many had hoped, and just hours later repeated his assertion that he would build a massive wall along the two countries’ 2,000-mile border to keep out migrants, and have Mexicans pay for it.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine says Donald Trump “choked” by not demanding to Mexico’s president that his country pay for a border wall. “And then we’re going to make a decision at a later date once everything is stabilized”.

And here wasDavid Duke: “Excellent speech by Donald Trump tonight”. The great irony is that if president Trump suddenly decides based on the wind direction one day that he wants some sort of “amnesty”, he would have a FAR greater chance of getting that passed through congress than Hillary Clinton would because Republicans wouldn’t be able to buck him on it in large numbers (as long as they called it something other than “amnesty”, which would be easy enough to do).

According to BuzzFeed, an Internet media outlet, during his meeting with Hispanic leaders early this month, Trump indicated an openness to legalization for undocumented immigrants, a claim later denied by the Trump campaign.

“Mexico will pay for the wall!”

Seeking to end confusion over his aggressive but recently muddled language on immigration, Donald Trump vowed Wednesday to remove millions of people living in the country illegally if he becomes president, warning that failure to do so would jeopardize the “well-being of the American people”.

NPR’s politics team is live annotating Trump’s speech below. “We agreed on the importance of ending the illegal flow of drugs, cash, guns and people across our border and to put the cartels out of business”, he said.

The Republican presidential nominee has made the wall – and Mexico paying for it – a core element in his campaign.

Fortunately, Colbert and the Late Show team were able to obtain some actual footage of the meeting, and believe me when I say what you see will surprise you. “What I heard today was not realistic and not compassionate”. It seemed to contradict Trump’s statement that payment wasn’t discussed, but the president’s office said only that Pena Nieto made his statement and the topic was dropped. ‘I’m going to flip, but not flop.
