The 11-year-old who made national headlines this week for questioning Mike Pence about Donald Trump’s rhetoric said on Friday that he “wasn’t trying to be hostile” and emphasized his support for the Republican presidential nominee.

Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence will head to Lancaster County for an event on Tuesday, campaign officials said.

Donald Trump’s running mate Mike Pence briefly returned home from the campaign trail to kick off what he calls “the best state fair in America”.

On Wednesday, Pence offered his own endorsement to House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan, the top US elected Republican, after Trump infuriated many party leaders by declining to endorse Ryan in his re-election bid.

The Indiana governor’s mass endorsement was an unusual break between a vice president and the top of the GOP ticket, but it was just the latest development after several days of damage control he’s undertaken on Trump’s behalf.

Donald Trump is making a rare admission he was wrong – in claiming he saw a video of a USA cash payment going to Iran.

Pence’s job is harder: softening Trump’s rough edges and limiting the fallout from what many Republicans see as the nominee’s self-inflicted wounds.

Trump, by contrast, delights in using monikers such as “Crooked Hillary” and “the devil” to describe Clinton.

Later, at a rally in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Pence suggested Trump speaks “straight from his heart, straight from his mind” and doesn’t have time for “thousands of rules of political correctness”.

“He has to be very careful about how he handles the defense of Donald Trump”, Devine said.
