Trump’s call to ban Muslims hurts anti-ISIS efforts, Obama aide says

YouGov/HuffPost’s latest research shows that most Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Islam. Asad Ashim, a third-year engineering student, compared ISIS to extremist groups present in other religions as well. The concept that he is not necessarily speaking for all, or even most, Americans gets lost, and America’s image overseas suffers as a result.

When it comes to political and social views, Muslims are far more likely to identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party (70%) than the Republican Party (11%) and to say they prefer a bigger government providing more services (68%) over a smaller government providing fewer services (21%).

Muslims and Arabs are being treated as suspects just for the mere reason that they speak Arabic or look Muslim or Arab.

The Westboro Baptist Church, one of the groups Ashim compared ISIS to, is a Christian church in Kansas. About the same number of people support a path to citizenship as have since February, and about the same number of people support deporting those here illegally. One of their most common practices is picketing the funerals of dead soldiers as well as the funerals of gay murder victims.

A Pew religious landscape survey found that 57% of American Muslims say there is more than one way to interpret Islam’s teachings. No demands were made of Christians to apologize on behalf of the shooter.

And while Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are calling for gun control, they may find themselves on the defensive when the mood of the country is apprehensive.

When the President of the United States asks the television networks to set aside time for him to broadcast a speech from the Oval Office, we can usually expect that he has something new to say. Do you ever hear them say “Christian terrorist”? Obama also is correctly emphasizing the need to enlist the help of the Muslim-American community to weed out terrorists. What do you say to someone who is simply, at this moment, anxious? They were allowed back on the fight after they had been questioned.

As some Muslims express their frustration with this approach, others have said that it presents an opportunity for the community to take ownership over how their religion operates in the world.

To Ashim, education is the best way to combat false ideas and information. They said Trump’s comments were insulting to them. What Isis is about, people beheading…that’s not Al-Islam.

CNN said suicide bombers armed with AK-47s “attacked sites throughout the French capital and at the stadium”. You can’t kill woman and children, yet they do. I mean, like Ridge wrote it himself!

“People might notice somebody acting differently at the mosque”, Rhodes said.

“Understand what Islam is”. They are thugs and killers, part of a cult of death, and they account for a tiny fraction of more than a billion Muslims around the world – including millions of patriotic Muslim Americans who reject their hateful ideology.

“I think what Trump is doing is something that he’s been doing over the course of his entire campaign, which is… to play on people’s fears in order to build support for his campaign”, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.
