Trump’s Cinco de Mayo post draws ire from some Latinos

After winning the Indiana Republican primary this week, Trump has become the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party for president.

The photo was posted on Trump’s closely followed Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

The post generated tens of thousands of retweets and seemingly as many jokes.

“I love Hispanics!” Trump wrote, above a photo of the grinning real estate tycoon holding a forkful of his meal, which he appeared to be eating at a desk.

And Jose Antonio Vargas, a Filipino American TV producer and writer, proposed an end to taco bowls altogether.

Some twitter users highlighted the hotelier’s rhetoric towards Mexico in the past, including his promise to build a wall and force the Mexican government to pay for it. A recent Gallup poll shows Trump is viewed unfavorably by 77 percent of Hispanic voters.

The Latino Victory Fund, a left-leaning political group, released a statement that said “Donald Trump is doubling down on his racist, anti-immigrant, anti-Latino and anti-Mexican rhetoric”. Is it even Mexican food?

The posting angered, baffled or amused some social media users, including Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton, Trump’s likely opponent in the November 8 election.

Looking to celebrate Cinco de Mayo like a true Mexican? The commemorative day is widely celebrated in the United States, since many Americans mistake it with the Mexico’s Independence Day.

The Donald’s post instantly had the Trumpolice on the case, and detective pointed out early on in the investigation that the Trump Tower Grill doesn’t actually have taco bowls on its menu.
