Trump’s Closed-Door Meetings with House and Senate Republicans Did Not Go Well
Priebus told Fox News Thursday that Trump and Cruz had “a good conversation”, but said that because the meeting was private, he wouldn’t go into specifics.

A number of other Republicans also expressed concern about Trump’s rhetoric during the meeting. J.J. Balaban of Democratic ad shop the Campaign Group already has ads that portray local candidates as running against Trump, as much against their local opponents.
In a Miami speech on July 8, Trump will say the economic policies of Democrats like President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the party’s presumptive nominee, have harmed minorities, said Steve Moore, a Trump economic policy adviser.
Trump’s Senate allies played down the exchanges.
Campaign Manager Paul Manafort denied that the meeting should be characterized as “contentious”, in a statement to the Post. Dogged Roll Call reporter Niels Lesniewski, however, knew just where to look for GOP senators after they met with Donald Trump on Thursday. Rice, like Sanford, plans to attend the convention.
“I’m a Republican and I want to support the nominee”, Kinzinger said after leaving the meeting early. But not all are expected to attend the question-and-answer session. “I think that will be one of the lesser stories, but still a very interesting one, is to see how the welcoming party here is going to respond to what is a pretty awkward situation for many of them”.
Yet, Roger Stone, a long-time strong Trump supporter and one-time adviser, said if Trump is elected president, he would “certainly serve”.
Trump was last on the Hill in May, to meet Republican leaders.
Trump told lawmakers Thursday that the media twisted what he said about Saddam, DesJarlais said.
Rep. Reid Ribble, R-Wis., a Republican who said he won’t vote for Trump, said he did not think the NY businessman “moved the needle” with his appeal.
But not everyone was won over.
According to The New York Times, Arizona senator Jeff Flake, referring to himself as “the one who didn’t get captured” (referring to Trump’s past comments about fellow Arizona senator John McCain), said that he couldn’t support Trump due to his comments about a Hispanic judge.
“You’ve been very critical of me”, Trump said in his opening statements to Flake.
Almost two dozen GOP senators may be skipping the Republican National Convention later this month in Cleveland, where Donald Trump is expected to receive the party’s official nomination. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, spoke with Trump, but did not change his views.
“He’s wrong”, Kirk told reporters several hours later.

Of course Cruz and Trump quickly turned on one another when the race hit its home stretch.
