Trump’s convention to feature less glitz, more family
“It seems to be something going on there”, Trump said on Fox News.

Donald Trump once promised a “showbiz” convention, packed with flash, celebrities and a “winner’s night” featuring sports stars and champion coaches.
The Trump opponents want to change the rule that requires delegates to vote for the candidate to which they were committed after state primaries and caucuses. Other than the fact that the convention will start on Monday and close on Thursday, few details have been released. And there’s always the possibility that protesters will try to do something disruptive inside the convention hall. While Bush, John Kasich and some other vanquished hopefuls will avoid the convention hall, those who do show up will face the somewhat awkward task of completing their transformation from anti-Trumps to cheerleaders. “We’ve had a few protest activities, a few marches, and we’ve handled those in a normal way”, said Williams.
Republicans have criticized the response to the attack by Trump’s likely Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, who was then secretary of state.
“Trump is a total nightmare for Rob Portman”, said Rebecca Pearcey, Strickland’s campaign manager.
When House Speaker Paul Ryan spoke to Wisconsin delegates Monday morning, he made no mention of Trump in his remarks. “There are Republicans who are sitting on their hands now, but if he’s competitive in these swing states and continues to show a real opportunity to win, I think, other than the elite of the elite … he’ll get enough of the Republican votes to be competitive because they hate Hillary Clinton”. And he voted that way and they were also misled.
Trump would gain the nomination at a time of crisis and tumult at home and overseas, underscored Sunday by the deadly shooting of three police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. “We have 25 percent of our factory workers” making goods for export, he said.
Trump is placing the blame on a lack of leadership and demanding “law and order”.
About 175 Arkansans are staying at the Cleveland Airport Marriott, and majority were present for Hutchinson’s speech; three busloads of activists and elected officials will be heading to the Quicken Loans Arena today for the convention’s opening session. “When Trump came along, you had 17 people running, 15 were elected politicians, either past or present”.
With much of the political world focused on the Republicans in Cleveland, it is expected that Clinton will respond to Republicans at these events. As of Friday, U.S. Rep. Dave Trott, R-Birmingham, remained undecided about whether he would go to Cleveland.
Kasich has not endorsed Trump since ending his own presidential campaign and is not attending the GOP convention in Cleveland. The early polling suggests some voters who do not support the Republican presidential nominee back the party’s senators.
OH is among the states that allow licensed gun owners to carry their weapons in public, and gun rights activists, particularly in Texas, have taken to expressing that right often in large-scale events.
Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said Sunday during ABC’s “This Week” that city officials “aren’t strangers to unrest and demonstrations and protests” and insisted that the city is prepared for an event that could draw tens of thousands of people. “Let’s see about the acceptance speech”.
In the days before the convention was set to open, Trump’s choice of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate was overshadowed by a terror attack in France and attempted coup in Turkey.
Hutchinson, who originally supported Huckabee and later backed Rubio, stressed that he would back Trump’s candidacy but not necessarily all of his policy positions.
Trump’s wife, Melania, is scheduled to speak Monday night; his adult children Tiffany and Don Jr. are slated to speak Tuesday; son Eric Trump addresses the delegates Wednesday and daughter Ivanka Trump is expected to speak Thursday night before her father. He’s not a natural with a teleprompter and can come across as rather flat when he’s reading from a script. Watch to see if he can find a comfortable middle ground – maintaining the tell-it-like-it-is style that has endeared him to some voters while toning down the excesses that have turned off others.
Christie has been an ardent Trump supporter since dropping out of the presidential race and was the first governor to endorse the billionaire.
Paul Manafort says the Trump and Portman campaigns are working “very closely” together.
Clinton intends to announce the plan on Monday in a speech to the NAACP convention in Cincinnati, followed by a stop at an OH voter registration event with volunteers.

As Republicans meet in Cleveland this week to anoint Donald Trump as their candidate for president, senior aides to the outspoken NY businessman are confident they have thwarted a rebellion aimed at denying him the nomination. Every national convention since 1968 has been held in August or September, with the exception of the July 1980 gathering at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
