President Barack Obama says it is “possible” that the Russian government would try to influence the USA elections by hacking into the Democratic National Committee systems and leaking the party’s emails.

“American intelligence agencies have told the White House they now have “high confidence” that the Russian government was behind the theft of emails and documents from the Democratic National Committee”, the New York Times newspaper reported citing the well-informed federal officials.

“Anything is possible”, Obama told NBC News in an interview broadcast yesterday when asked if the Russians would try to influence the November 8 election.

Obama pointed out that Clinton’s Republican opponent in the White House race, Donald Trump, has “repeatedly expressed admiration for [Russian President] Vladimir Putin” and has said he wants to work more closely with Russian Federation to solve global problems such as battling the Islamic State group.

“Well- I am basing this on what Mr Trump himself has said”.

Trump on Monday called it laughable that Russian Federation would help his presidential campaign by leaking the emails.

Obama’s comments come in the wake of release of emails by WikiLeaks which were obtained illegally by hacking into the server of the Democratic National Committee.

Clinton’s campaign on Monday blamed Russian Federation for the hack.

“I think the timing around our convention was not a coincidence”, he continued.

On July 22, the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks published almost 20,000 emails from the DNC.

“All I know is what the experts and the reporters are telling us”.

“If she does that when she’s in government, that’s a political, managerial style that can lead to conflict”, Assange said.
